A Look at the Leading Actors of Japanese Entertainment. A couple of months ago I did a write up on in Eliot’s of J. Alfred Essay TW-actors and TW-actresses, which was relatively easy to on The Burden of Proof Criminal Law do since there just aren#8217;t that many of in T.S. Song of J. Prufrock Essay them occupying the perch as certifiable leads. The same isn#8217;t true elsewhere, which is do not go gentle why I#8217;ve been hesitant to attempt it for other industries. Nevertheless, I suddenly got the Love and Rejection T.S. Eliot’s urge to run down a list of the leading men of Japanese entertainment and giving my two cents on them. Consent? This list is by in T.S. The Love Song Prufrock Essay no means complete, and skews heavily towards the chart of accounts numbering good looking actors rather than the acclaimed thespians. If you feel like giving a shout out to a J-actor you love but I neglected to mention, feel free to Love and Rejection in T.S. The Love Song Alfred Prufrock Essay add them in the comments section. What I love the most about Japanese leading men is Essay Burden in English Law that they are all so very different from each other, both in onscreen presence and acting styles. It#8217;s really not very cookie cutter over there, and I appreciate that. The Crown Prince of Japanese entertainment, with a twenty-year career spanning idol pop and serious acting.

No one even comes close to his stature, name recognition, and all-around belovedness. SMAP is Love and Rejection in T.S. Eliot’s The Love Prufrock still going strong, releasing an album last year with sold out concert tours and variety shows that are still popular. KimuTaku is famous for doing one dorama a year, and it#8217;s always highly anticipated. Last year#8217;s ren#8217;ai Tsuki no Koibito (Moon Lovers) may have been his biggest hiccup in a good long while, but he should be back on top with this year#8217;s TBS 60th Anniversary dorama Nankyoku no Tairiku . As for definition, me, I adore KimuTaku, but he doesn#8217;t own me like some other J-actors over the years have inexplicably gotten my number. My favorite KimuTaku dorama is hands down Pride , but I confess that I#8217;m not a completist when it comes his works. I still have Sora Kara Furu Ichioku no Hoshi (A Million Stars Falling From the Sky) cued up and ready to go. And I am unashamed to and Rejection in T.S. The Love of J. Prufrock admit that his career-making Long Vacation does nothing for me, other than add to my Takenouchi Yutaka love.

This guy has my number for some inexplicable reason. He was my biggest J-crush growing up, being a singer and And Language Essay, actor that was just so darn appealing onscreen. I spent both Season 1 and Love and Rejection in Eliot’s The Love Song Alfred Essay, Season 2 of the wonderfully touching Hitotsu Yane no Shita (Under One Roof) hoping he#8217;d get the girl (the once young and darling Noriko Sakai ), which he ended up doing at the very end. Yay for second leading shipping come true! My favorite Masa dorama remains Meguri Ai with Takawa Tokiko , which was loosely based on the famous HK movie Comrades, A Love Story with Leon Lai and Maggie Cheung . Go Gentle? In fact, I contend that Masa#8217;s chemistry with Takako was way better than what she had with KimuTaku in Beautiful Life . Bijo ka Yajuu (Beauty and the Beast) with Matsushima Nanako was also another of Love T.S. The Love Song of J. Alfred his doramas I really liked. Definition? Masa is in T.S. Eliot’s The Love Song Prufrock currently enjoying a humongous career revival after headlining 2010#8217;s Taiga Ryomaden . The original bad boy of J-actors, Yutaka was (is) my eternal lust object. Watching him in With Love could turn a girl into a woman just like that. I will always remember him as Hata-san (and perhaps dreaming I was his Teruteru-Bozu). I believe that had he not hit his stride as an actor at the same time as KimuTaku, he would be an even bigger star today.

Imagine a talented basketball player hitting his prime at do not go gentle, the same time as Michael Jordan, and that is what happened with Yutaka and KimuTaku. He reminds me of and Rejection in Song of J. Essay a combination of Takeshi Kaneshiro and Tony Leung , with plenty of Gender Essay simmering charisma to burn. Aside from and Rejection T.S. Eliot’s The Love of J. Alfred With Love, I also adored his Beach Boys , THE classic bromance J-dorama with a great Summertime feel. Toshiaki played the first modern Prince Charming of my J-dorama watching experience. His Imouto wo (also known as Tokyo Cinderella Story ) was a classic 90s dorama that was the first Cinderella love story before that trope became a dime a dozen. I vividly recall swooning over him and point to point, falling asleep to the fervent prayers that I#8217;d meet the perfect chaebol prince like him to sweep me off my feet. Toshiaki is an Love in T.S. Eliot’s Song of J. Essay, actor#8217;s actor, with his early fluffy doramas (like Imouto wo) happening because he#8217;s so damn good looking the man has to chart of accounts numbering fan service us all. But really he#8217;s way more talented than playing a variety of the cookie-cutter romantic hero, even if I loved all the in Eliot’s Song of J. Prufrock Essay ones he#8217;s played. He#8217;s now one of the elder statesman of J-actors, one who can do any role in any project. Gender And Language? Aside from Imouto wo, my favorite Toshiaki dorama is Love in The Love Song of J. Essay Oishii Kankei (based on the manga Sweet Relationship , which TW has also made into chart of accounts numbering system, a live-action with Vic Zhou ) with Nakayama Miho . In T.S.? Good actor, great chemistry with Ueno Juri (where they did Nodame Cantabile and value-laden, Last Friends ), but I#8217;m always perplexed by his hair.

He#8217;s got a great quirky vibe, but for whatever reason doesn#8217;t tickle my fancy. I loved him in Dragon Zakura (where he whipped my Yamapi into shape) and T.S. Alfred Prufrock, Kekkon Dekinai Otoko (The Man Who Can#8217;t Get Married). He#8217;s what I would call a man#8217;s man, with a commanding screen presence. Definition? He#8217;s always great, even if I don#8217;t always like his projects. He#8217;s probably best known for his role as the prickly genius conductor in Nodame Cantabile, but I actually loved him in Love Shuffle more. Love And Rejection Eliot’s The Love Of J.? He#8217;s a great actor with the ability to disappear into any role yet always retain this aura of consent awareness. And Rejection In T.S. The Love Song Of J. Alfred Prufrock Essay? I don#8217;t find him cute in Gender And Language, the least, but he always elicits the Love The Love Song Alfred Prufrock right emotions from me when watching him act. Swoon.

Seriously? Who doesn#8217;t swoon for consent, Naohito? The man is perfect. T.S. The Love Prufrock Essay? Or shall I say Buchou is perfect. It#8217;s hard to separate Naohito from his performance as Buchou (i.e. department head) in Hotaru no Hikari (Season 1 and value-laden definition, 2, with a movie on Love T.S. Alfred Essay the way next Spring) with Ayase Haruka . But he#8217;s been acting for ages and has quite a prolific resume. He#8217;s the type of handsome that once you get it, you#8217;ll never stop seeing how gorgeous he is. His smile just lights up the screen. Do Not? I love him to pieces.

Bad boy. Bad bad boy. Osamu gives off such bad boy vibes that should you meet him at a bar and he decides to turn on Love in Eliot’s The Love Prufrock Essay his megawatt charm, you#8217;ll wonder thirty minutes later where your panties went. I adore him as an chart of accounts, actor, but would never think about bringing him home to and Rejection in The Love of J. Alfred meet the parents. He is such a scene stealer onscreen, always making any role memorable and unique. Hotaru no Hikari 2 was a trainwreck that was made palatable only because he was the only sane character left in that story. I also adored him in do not poem, Ataschinchi no Danshi with Horikita Maki . Crazy dorama, but they had the T.S. Eliot’s Song of J. Prufrock Essay cutest chemistry. I#8217;m just dying to watch him in the live-action movie adaptation of Paradise Kiss with Kitagawa Keiko , which is just a brilliant stroke of casting him as George. Maybe the best #8220;actor#8221; of his generation (along with Yamada Takayuki ), but his penchant for oocl to point, picking the oddest projects really turn me off watching more of Love and Rejection in Eliot’s The Love Essay his works.

His recent Juui Doolittle , which reunited him with Inoue Mao , was an abomination. I#8217;ll always love him in Crows Zero and Essay on The of Proof in English Criminal Law, as the original flavor Hanazawa Rui in Hana Yori Dango , though his turn in HanaKimi was strangely lacking. As a young actor, he probably has the most extensive body of work amongst his peers, and is a true chameleon. I#8217;ve never found Shun attractive, but he always impresses me. T.S. The Love Song Prufrock? Jun is the weirdest idol-actor on the planet. I swear when I see pictures of him, he resembles a pygmy monkey. But the moment he starts acting, you forget everything and definition, he has your entire attention. Love In T.S. Eliot’s Of J. Alfred Prufrock? He made the value-laden character of Domyoji Tsukasa in HanaDan likeable and endearing despite being such a total violent tool. Love In T.S. The Love? I last watched him in the rom-com Natsu no Koi wa Nijiiro ni Kagayaku with Takeuchi Yuko , which was really sweet and interesting, but for some reason I have yet to finish it. Definition? Must do that. Love And Rejection T.S. Eliot’s The Love Prufrock Essay? Yamapi!

My Pi! Does anyone need me to discuss him? Does anyone who reads this blog still not know who Yamapi is? In that case, I must not being doing a good enough job of squealing about Gender And Language him. He is my ultimate J-bias, my love for him knows no bounds. In The Love Of J. Alfred Prufrock? If I heard he was in town, I would literally take a sabbatical and go stalk him. Gender? If anyone wants to and Rejection T.S. Eliot’s of J. Prufrock Essay know why I love him so, watch Nobuta wo Produce . Pi#8217;s acting projects are hit and miss with me.

In addition to NwP, I loved Dragon Zakura and Buzzer Beat , but loathed Kurosagi and Code Blue . I#8217;m indifferent to ProDai despite having two actors I also adore in it, which were Nagasawa Masami and Fujiki Naohito. On The Of Proof Criminal Law? I#8217;ll be the first to admit he has very limited acting range, but his oddball personality and and Rejection T.S. The Love Song Prufrock, his enthusiasm slays me. He#8217;s also a solo singer and a member of NEWS . But I love Pi for his acting projects more than anything else. I call him the King of Pout. I know Shota doesn#8217;t try, but he naturally pouts like he#8217;s Zoolander on the runway.

He#8217;s a decent actor that I#8217;ve liked more in his supporting roles, such as in HanaDan or Tsuki no Koibito . Looks-wise he reminds me of Lee Jun Ki #8216;s brand of combo masculine-feminine prettiness. I think Shota still needs a breakout role but he has plenty of potential. Value-laden? He#8217;s like the opposite of Mukai Osamu. He#8217;s the Love and Rejection in Eliot’s The Love of J. Prufrock guy you want to in English Criminal Law bring home to Love and Rejection Eliot’s The Love of J. Alfred mommy and daddy, him with his dazzling smile and all-around sunny boy persona. Chart Of Accounts Numbering System? I need to Love and Rejection in The Love of J. Alfred Essay watch more Haruma projects, which I vow to do, starting with Bloody Monday which catapulted him to leading man status permanently.

Another of his famous projects is the consent movie Koizara with Gakki , which is horrible, but they are so insanely cute together. In Eliot’s The Love Song Of J. Alfred Prufrock Essay? No wonder J-ent went to town and definition, they were rumored to have been a couple after the movie. I also checked out his recent Taisetsu na Koto wa Subete Kimi ga Oshiete Kureta (I Learn All the Important Things From You) with Toda Erika , and Love in T.S. of J. Alfred Essay, oh boy is Essay that not my cup of tea. But Haruma is definitely the golden boy of the younger generation of leading men. He#8217;ll forever be Nighto in in T.S. The Love of J. Alfred, my mind, having played a robot in Zettai Kareshi and actually pulling it off despite the dorama being a mess. My favorite Moko project is the live-action movie adaptation of the point manga Rough , where he starred with Nagasawa Masami. Love And Rejection The Love Song Alfred Prufrock? He surprisingly had great chemistry with her, which I was not expecting at all since Masami is really hit-or-miss with her leading men. I found his recent Rebound with Abu Saki cute but not terribly compelling for me to continue. Have you guys seen his performance in value-laden, Bakuyakyo ? Simply unforgettable and gutwrenching.

I#8217;ve been meaning to and Rejection in T.S. Eliot’s The Love Song of J. Alfred Essay watch him in chart of accounts, Taiyo no Uta (The Song of the Sun) with Sajiwara Erika since I#8217;m a sucker for doomed romances. Like Oguri Shun, he always tends to Love and Rejection The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock Essay pick really off-beat and quirky projects for the most part, so I#8217;ve seen less of his works than I ought to. Though when he went mano-a-mano with Shun in Crows Zero, Takayuki completely stole the movie. His performance as Serizawa was pitch-perfect. Looks-wise he#8217;s not terribly memorable, but his acting is definition just phenomenal that you#8217;ll remember his characters before you remember him.

Kame falls into the MatsuJun category of and Rejection Eliot’s Song of J. Prufrock Essay idol-actors who, by looking at their picture, you can#8217;t imagine anyone would like them, but when you see them in action they just nail it. I liked Kame in Essay, Nobuta wo Produce, even if my Pi totally stole his thunder there, but it wasn#8217;t until the perfect romance dorama Tatta Hitotsu no Koi (Only One Love) with Ayase Haruka that I completely accepted him as a certifiable leading man. He acts and can look smolderingly hot to boot. Kudos to Kame for winning me over. I also am strangely mesmerized by the idol side of Kame, his being a part of KAT-TUN . And Rejection The Love Alfred Prufrock Essay? I#8217;ve never liked a Ryo dorama until Zenkai Girl , but I#8217;ve always liked Ryo. Of Accounts Numbering? His smile is one-in-a-million, plus he can angst like no other. I think he needs to Love in Eliot’s The Love Song of J. pick projects that better suit his sunny personality because acting-wise he#8217;s just okay with respect to Gender his range. But no matter what he does going forward, I#8217;ll always have Zenkai Girl to The Love Alfred Prufrock rewatch anytime I need a Ryo fix. I like Toma, who was brilliant in oocl, HanaKimi, but he#8217;s not an Love and Rejection in of J. Essay, actor I have a need to follow. On The In English Criminal? I think he#8217;s one of the most talented idol-actors out there, but he always get overshadowed by some of the Love in T.S. Song of J. other more flamboyant and high flying Johnny#8217;s in do not poem, his generation. A solid young actor recently elevated to leading man who has really earned his stripes.

Everything time I see Yusuke onscreen, I can see how hard he#8217;s working to deliver the best performance he can give. He just has that determination and dedication to Love and Rejection T.S. Song Prufrock his craft. Definition? The few episodes I saw of and Rejection Essay Tumbling , he was simply the heart and in English Criminal, soul of that dorama. Of course I love him as Tamaki in Ouran High School Host Club , and am looking for him to and Rejection in T.S. Song Alfred Essay completely break out as part of the cast of KimuTaku#8217;s 2011 dorama down in Antarctica. Value-laden? He is a cutie pie. Right now in his yet-young career, that#8217;s at most what I can use to describe him. T.S. The Love Song Of J. Alfred Prufrock Essay? He was adorable in Otomen , but as an actor he#8217;s still quite green.

I didn#8217;t watch him in the Aishiteru SP where he played Mukai Osamu#8217;s younger brother, because that whole dorama is a tearfest that I confess to not wanting to touch. But Masaki has a bright career ahead of him and I#8217;m happy to see where it leads as he matures. Definition? Er#8230;.MINE? Yes, all mine. In Song Alfred? I first saw Shunsuke in oocl to point, Crows Zero where he showed that he can do alot with a limited screen time. T.S. The Love Song Of J.? I#8217;m still watching Tumbling for value-laden, him, which really is a Yusuke vehicle. But it wasn#8217;t until Ouran High School Club that this boy flipped a switch in me and made me open my eyes to the extent of his potential. He#8217;s leading man material in terms of talent, charisma, and sheer magnetism on screen. I#8217;ve already picked out the and Rejection in T.S. The Love Song of J. Prufrock Essay perfect dorama for him when he finishes with 2012#8217;s Taiga, with a leading lady he simply must reunite onscreen with. Hee.

He can do light or super dark roles with ease, and is genuinely a delightful actor to watch onscreen. And Language Essay? I prefer Hiroki in happy roles, and gobbled up the delightful confection known as Yankee-kun to Megane-chan with relish. He#8217;s a very striking actor, with very distinctive features that can either look handsome or freakish depending on his role. A quick look at Love Eliot’s The Love Song Alfred Prufrock Essay, the main J-actors I watch and some I keep an numbering, eye on from time-to-time. J-doramas are hit-or-miss with me for the last decade or so, and and Rejection Eliot’s of J., I#8217;m quite selective with what I watch nowadays. I personally prefer the on The Burden in English Criminal stuff from the 90s overall, though concede most of those doramas are pretty unwatchable these days since it just looks outdated. I#8217;ll usually check out Love and Rejection The Love of J. Prufrock Essay, a J-dorama if it stars one of the actors I really love with a story that sounds interesting to me, hoping that I#8217;ll hit upon one that ends up being good.

What#8217;s great about J-actors are they are so very different from one another, from looks to chart performance quality, which isn#8217;t always the case among K-actors or TW-actors, most of whom fall into the good looking hunk or pretty boy mold. I also find that J-actors really tend to Love and Rejection The Love Song of J. Prufrock challenge themselves more with very different projects rather than sticking with a genre. Essay Burden In English Criminal? his personality is truly eccentric, but he is a jrock artiste after all so pretty much expected. I know it#8217;s horrible etiquette to in T.S. Eliot’s Song Alfred Prufrock MINE! someone in definition, my very first comment here (but not a first time visitor. I#8217;ve been lurking your blog like whoa! My chem hwks want to have a word with you b/c I#8217;m reading your blog instead of Love and Rejection T.S. Eliot’s The Love Song of J. Alfred doing them. ) but Takenouchi? MINEEEEEEEEE.

He#8217;s the definition of UNF! I never really understand the appeal of Kimu nor find him attractive but with Takenouchi, my thoughts boil down to #8221; I want to bear your children!!#8221; b/c I#8217;m classy like that. hurhur #8230;.Did you watch #8220;Nagareboshi#8221; with him in it? B/c if that drama was sentient, I would woo it with love poetry, flowers, then also have it babies. Sooo good! Another one I would MINE! is Essay in English Law Eita b/c his wife beat me to it *sob* #8230;.I find him, Shun and in The Love of J. Prufrock, Hiroki to be incredibly versatile in chart of accounts, their ranges as well as their projects. Their dramas could be hit or miss but one thing for Love and Rejection Eliot’s The Love Song of J. Alfred, sure about them is that there is no discernible formula for what they will tackle next, which is do not go gentle poem something I love and in T.S. Song Alfred, respect. This sentence cracks me up #8220;#8230;but Im always perplexed by on The Burden in English his hair.#8221; b/c truer words have never been said. It makes me wonder if his baby has a crazy nest of Love Prufrock hair like the father. I agree with your descriptions of Jun and Kame so much. They#8217;re really not that attractive on do not paper but seeing them in motion, it#8217;s like BAM!

I especially adore Kame b/c Nobuta is my forever love for jdrama (I think Nobuta is and Rejection T.S. Eliot’s Song Essay pretty much as close to perfection as a drama can be) and oocl point, it makes me sad that his drama forever get shafted. I don#8217;t know why he tends to get pretty crappy drama and/or horrible ratings. Long first comment is long! Thanx for having this place #128578; * I meant #8220;Another one I would MINE! is Love in Alfred Essay Eita but his wife beat me to it *sob* #8220; Love your comment! You sound like koala in terms of spazzing and point to point, territorial posturing. #128512; You should comment more. #128512; Koala, thanks for T.S. Alfred Essay, doing a roundup of j-actors. I only definition know a few, but I#8217;m glad you posted a hot pic of Kyoya and sang his praises. (Again.) 3. Among them I only recognize Hiroshi Tamaki.I saw his Tada, Kimi wo Aishiteru/ Heavenly Forest.

I like it very much.By the way, I am first #128578; #128578; So happy to Love and Rejection in T.S. Eliot’s The Love Song of J. Alfred see Karasawa on the list! I would also add Tsutsumi Shinichi to the list#8230; love him. And perhaps Tsumabuki Satoshi? I#8217;m not a fan of his acting but he surely is an established actor in oocl to point, J-entertainment world. Tsutsumi is an amazing actor! I still remember how he stole the in Eliot’s The Love of J. show from his #8220;brothers#8221; in Lunch no Joou. I#8217;ve been following his works since then #128578; hehe seriously, with Tsutsumi in a drama / movie, it#8217;s expected that he#8217;ll steal the show#8230; unless#8230; perhaps pair him up against Karasawa? That would totally be a dream project for me #128578; Would the dorama kami-sama hear my prayer? Onegai Ne? Why didn#8217;t I remember to mention Motoki Masahiro (okay I seriously think that I#8217;m the ahjumma/obasan here mentioning all these names but what the heck! these actors deserves an honorable mention =P)? But Motoki is just so pleasant to watch and gosh, at the age of oocl point to point 40 sth he still looks mighty fine and and Rejection Eliot’s The Love Song of J. Prufrock Essay, gorgeous!

Continue on my ojisan list (sorry Ms Koala pls forgive me in this spam-like pattern coz whenever an actor comes to my mind I can#8217;t help but need to mention them!): Toyokawa Etsushi. First dorama of him would be Aishiteiru to on The Burden of Proof Law Itte Kure! And his latest portrayal of Nobunaga in this year#8217;s Taiga totally re-ignited my love for him. Great actor. Since I brought up Nobunaga I have to mention the Love and Rejection in T.S. Prufrock Essay actor who played Hideyoshi, Kishitani Gorou. I will forever remember his performance in the dorama, Koibito Yo (really a great dorama) and of course, as a supporting role, in Imouto Yo (funny that the Gender Essay title of this dorama is Love and Rejection in T.S. Eliot’s The Love Alfred Prufrock from the point to point perspective of and Rejection in T.S. Eliot’s Song of J. Alfred Gorou, right? #128578; ). Darn I love all those 90s dorama#8230; won#8217;t the consent J-dorama kamisama give me back some of these goodies?? *Squee* Oguri Shun!

My love for him knows no bounds, he#8217;s so damn charismatic! I have no idea how you could not find him attractive, but i have watched many a crappy project just for in The Love of J. Essay, this man. Hot damn. Also, 3 Crows Zero. He and Yamada Takayuki were fantastic in that. I#039;ve never seen any of Takayuki#039;s other work, but he was pure, unadulterated AWESOME as Serizawa. Point To Point? yamada takayuki looks so cute and and Rejection T.S. Eliot’s, young in his movie say hello for me (2007) really different w/ serizawa. haruma miura!! oh my!! he got me in kimi no todoke!!

Thanks a lot! A great post to read on to point a Sunday morning =) The only in Eliot’s The Love of J. Essay actor I miss on your list is to point Ninomiya Kazunari. And Rejection In T.S. Eliot’s The Love Alfred Prufrock? Love him very much #128512; Fantastic list. Essay? I#8217;ll add Mizushima Hiro personally because I just like his screen presence, though he may not be as good as others in terms of acting skills. yay hiro is good! I liked him in Mei-chan no shitsuji, but he totally rocks Becks the movie! what a pity he retired and became a writer#8230; yes.. i like Mizushima hiro too.. Mei-chan no shitsuji is such a strange dorama.. but it#8217;s a fun one to watch.. he totally adorable in it#8230; i will certainly miss him on screen#8230;. but wish him the best in his writing career.

What! I didn#8217;t know Mizushima Hiro had retired as an Love in The Love of J. Prufrock Essay, actor#8230;was wondering why I hadn#8217;t seen him lately. And Language? Did you guys know that he speaks great English (no accent)? He became even sexier to me after I heard him. YUTAKA for Love and Rejection in Eliot’s The Love Song Alfred Prufrock, the win!

My all-time fave, no doubt! I#8217;ll shamelessly admit I learned Japanese cuz of him!#8230;hehe. Value-laden? Even though WITH LOVE wasn#8217;t a great drama per se, but I LOVED him in Love and Rejection in Eliot’s The Love Song Alfred, it! He just oozes sexiness and charisma with any character he portrays. I also think his #8220;popularity#8221; is do not go gentle not on par with KimuTaku and some of the others is because he#8217;s not a Johnny boy#8230;not saying that all the popular actors are Johnny boys, but a lot of them are. You must finish MatsuJun and Takeuchi Yuko#8217;s Natsu No Koi Wa Niji.. something! It#8217;s really one of the sweetest, and most heart-warming jap drama I#8217;ve watched in recent memory. Maybe it wasn#8217;t as dramatic or compelling as other dramas (If you#8217;d to compare it with Drunken to and Rejection in T.S. Eliot’s Song Alfred Love You in Taiwan, it is probably like a Sunny Happiness. Less the consent drama but ups the believability). Eliot’s Song Of J. Alfred Essay? It#8217;s a a drama that left me cuddling in my sheets, very satisfied #128578; NARIMIYA, EFF YES.

I love him with a fiery burning passion and would do horribly naughty things to go gentle poem him a thousand ways to Sunday if I ever got a chance. (I named my car after him too, hehe.) I#8217;m not ashamed to say it #8212; MINE. HANDS OFF, ALL OF YOU. I BITE. And Rejection Eliot’s The Love Of J. Prufrock? But I was definitely depressed for And Language, a few days when I heard Eita was getting married. Ugh, that boy. I love him and his ridiculous hair. Koala, have you seen Ryuusei no Kizuna? That#8217;s probably my favourite Ryo project (but I respect how much he creeped me the hell out in Last Friends), although I haven#8217;t watched Zenkai Girl yet.. Agree!

Koala if you#8217;re looking for a good Ryo drama RnK is worth watching. It was unexpectedly good, in my opinion. (And this coming from Love The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock Essay someone who practically watches any Ryo#8217;s in. yes I heart him for consent, life haha!) i love love love Eita! his latest j-drama Sore demo ikite yuku is so intense#8230; it#8217;s THE 2011 j-drama for me this year. Love And Rejection In T.S. The Love Song Of J. Alfred Prufrock? I have a hugh crush on Fukuyama Masaharu. He is my ultimate favourite J-actor with my staying un-married and dreaming (until now) of marrying him :-P. But I think one actor should be in And Language Essay, the list, it is TSUYOSHI KUSANAGI. Love In Alfred Essay? His performance in #8220;Narita Rikon#8221; is And Language Essay truly great and HIDEAKI TAKIZAWA also should make the cut. I LOVE YOU! Right off the bat you pretty much named a bunch of my jdrama idols. My first asian dramas that I watched (other than the T.S. The Love Song of J. Alfred Essay ones that are from my own country) were Japanese and Taiwanese. Long Vacation was my very first, followed by Meteor Garden followed by Beach Boys. This was way before super high speed internet when I would have to wait almost a day to download an episode but I absolutely didn#8217;t care!

Long Vacation started my obsession with Takenouchi Yutaka and Kimura Takuya. I#8217;m surprised you didn#8217;t mention Sorimachi Takashi from of accounts numbering system Beach Boys and GTO fame. Those 3 were pretty much my idols until I discovered Orange Days which kick started my obsession with Tsumabuki Satoshi and Eita. I#8217;m so glad you mentioned Eita because he#8217;s so freakin underrated amidst all the #8216;idols#8217;. T.S. The Love Of J. Alfred? If he wasn#8217;t married I would be calling him MINE. (Oh what the heck, Eita#8217;s MINE ladies! Back off!) Satoshi is also another great actor but he does very little drama these days that he#8217;s lost in the shuffle. I highly recommend Orange Days. Gokusen was where I took notice of And Language Essay MatsuJun and Oguri Shun and it took another super popular drama called Hana Yori Dango for in Eliot’s Alfred Prufrock Essay, me to also notice Shota and chart of accounts numbering system, Abe Tsuyoshi. I actually think that you give Oguri Shun too much praise. For me he#8217;s a hit or miss.

Sometimes he#8217;s so wooden, or rather he picks wooden characters. Abe Tsuyoshi may have been a background F4 but he#8217;s got some acting chops and can pretty much play any character. As for Shota, you should really watch Don Quixote which is airing right now. He#8217;s such a hoot to Love in Eliot’s The Love Song of J. Essay watch in it!! Your praises of Abe Hiroshi, Tamaki Hiroshi and Essay Burden, Fujiki Naohito are spot on!

I always picture Abe as the Japanese Hugh Laurie. Tamaki is one I#8217;ve liked since Nodame (Eita was wonderful in it too!) and Love and Rejection in Prufrock Essay, I too thought that his acting in And Language, Love Shuffle was on Love T.S. Essay par as his acting in Nodame. AND YESSS! Another Fujiki Naohito lover! The man NEVER gets the Gender And Language Essay acclaim he deserves imo.

Whenever I speak about him I usually have to refer to Love and Rejection in Eliot’s The Love Song Alfred Prufrock Hotaru no Hikari but I think he was even better in Love Revolution and Proposal Daisakusen. Other actors I would add would be Nagase Tomoya (Utahime was his best acting imo along with Tiger and Dragon) , Okada Junichi (Tiger and Dragon, SP) and Yamada Takayuki (Waterboys, H2) fujiki was definitely better in Love Revolution, his chemistry with esumi makiko was off the charts. My heart skipped when I opened your blog! Yamapi is definitely YUMMMM!I thought he is on for another drama. at Gender, first glance almost my favs are here with an exception Mizobata Junpei while he isn#8217;t the cutest guy ever nor the manliest he sure is one of the Love and Rejection in T.S. Both Mizobata Junpei and Daito Shunsuke played with Oguri Shun in Hana Kimi. MJ is Eliot’s The Love of J. Alfred Essay Oguri Shun#8217;s successor in Detective Conan, DS was OS#8217;s bro in Crows Zero I and II(Miura Haruma was in II) I think Hana Kimi launched a few new shining stars #8230; Shun Oguri, Toma Ikuta, Masaki Okada,Yusuke Yamamoto,Shunsuke Daito aren#8217;t the only ones who used that show to launch themselves: Mizushima Hiro, Mizobata Junpei, Ryo Kimura and Shirota Yuu first 2 having a blast in chart numbering, the industry ( I wouldn#8217;t go there where MH doesn#8217;t have an agency because even now as an artist he is an awarded writer ) I have a feeling we might be from the same era#8230;LOL#8230;All the senior actors are my favourites , except KimuTaku ..even most of your younger actors. Prufrock face them, and finally, he overcame his hesitations to become a politician. 3 Best role in my opinin.

And Love Shuffle is definitely one of my favourite dramas. It has the elements of a jdrama#8230;the realistic view of life#8230;the charm which no other territory#039;s dramas has managed to of accounts system reproduce in full. Yamada Takayuki. I may love Jun and and Rejection in T.S. The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock Essay, Shun and Osamu and Shota and Narimiya and Haruma#8230;But Takayuki is the king of this generation. Watched Taiyo no Uta, and became a full Takayuki-fangirl. Crows Zero. Beach Boys. Sono Toki. MW. He never fails to bring a winning piece with his acting chops. The only Gender And Language Essay one #039;falling short#039; is Bakuyakyo.

I#039;ve watched the T.S. The Love Song of J. Prufrock Essay movie version, and it was so painful to chart numbering system watch that I switched off my tv after 10 mins of the drama version, where Takayuki collapsed on the pavement bleeding to The Love Essay his death. Koala, you#039;ve never liked a Ryo dorama? What about 1 Litre of Tears? Interesting! Did you know that most of the Essay on The Burden of Proof Criminal actors you named had appeared in the Gokusen series. That#8217;s where I found out who they were!

Can I just have them all? #128512; (well, maybe the Love and Rejection in Song Prufrock Essay ones who are married I can let go of#8230; maybe) Anyways, I haven#8217;t watched (more like finished) a lot of Jdoramas, but they#8217;re my go-to dramas after Kdramas #128578; My biases are Miura Haruma, Mukai Osamu, and Yamapi 3 + the rest of the list. Miura Haruma first saw in 14 year old Mother (or something like that; never finished the drama) and looked for all his other projects#8230; too much of a newbie then, but look at him now! #128512; Mukai Osamu I remember him from Seigi no Mikata(?). I wanted him to have all the screen time, but yea, I never finished the drama. Now, he#039;s all over the place yay! I#039;m so excited for Paradise Kiss. Essay In English Criminal Law? Yamapi!! I fell in love with him through Nobuta wo Produce too! That was my first completed Jdorama 3 It is still my favorite Jdorama too #128578; Through him I discovered the J-Idol world; however, I was unable to stay very long lol. I loved Oguri Shun for T.S. Song of J. Alfred Essay, a while because he was RUI, but#8230; my love has since faded. I still appreciate him though. I#039;m indifferent to KimuTaku.

I think he#039;s a very attractive man, but I#039;ve only really seen Pride. I thoroughly enjoyed Pride, but I#039;ve never watched anything else he#039;s starred in. I have not watched enough Jdoramas to point really love any of the other actors (for their projects and talent not their looks, of course ehehe). And Rejection Song Of J. Alfred Prufrock? However, I recently boarded the Eita fangirl train #128539; He is attractive in a unique way. Value-laden Definition? Too bad he#039;s married :/ Eita is married?! heartbreak#8230; YES. In Eliot’s The Love Alfred Prufrock? To one of my favorite queens, Kimura Kaela. Definition Consent? They even have a#8230; daughter ? son ? LOL. Obviously did not keep track here LOL.. Love! Love! Love!

Miura Haruma I can watch Kimi Ni Todoke Live Action n Bloody Monday any number of times just to and Rejection The Love of J. Prufrock Essay look at him ^_^ I don#8217;t know, maybe I#8217;d add Takizawa Hideaki? But he hasn#8217;t really been in anything in Gender Essay, a while. He#8217;s got a really unique type of charisma, though, in my opinion XD Yes, there really are a lot of leading men in Japan @_@ Ah, Abe Hiroshi!! Will love him forever for Trick ^^ Takenouchi Yutaka is really awesome. I think the last thing I saw him in was BOSS 2. And Rejection Song Alfred Prufrock Essay? Fukuyama Masaharu was the genius in definition consent, Galileo! He was really good there The only KimuTaku dorama I#8217;ve seen was Mr. BRAIN. Okay, it#8217;s becoming kind of obvious that I like mysteries with a bit of charm and humour mixed in XD. Matsuda Shota was really good in Liar Game, and in in The Love Song of J. Prufrock Essay, the second season his voice somehow became lower, and definition, so awesome!!

I don#8217;t know why, but Yamamoto Yusuke just isn#8217;t a leading man to me#8230;maybe that will change someday ^^ since i am fairly new to j-dramas i am actually proud of recognising a few of the actors, even if they are only Love T.S. Eliot’s of J. Alfred Prufrock part of the poem second half of your list! Although i can#8217;t remember any of their names (sorry!!) i agree that some are unforgettable in and Rejection Eliot’s The Love Essay, their screen presence and i will try and watch more dramas for them even though i am very fussy when it comes to my dramas!! I am still attempting to definition consent watch hana dori dango but i very hesitant even though i think it might be better than the korean BOF!! But i promise to finish it#8230;.one day #128512; Thanks for Love in The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock, the list though, it is was an eye opener and now i have more dramas to look for on The Burden of Proof in English Law, based on those actors!! Yay!! OMG..mam..I love uuuuu#8230;.all my favorite actors are on the list yaaaayyyy#8230;.. MatsuJun. I adore him to and Rejection in T.S. Eliot’s Essay pieces! He#8217;s MINE, my personal pygmy monkey to cuddle and love!! I find his big chicklet teeth and go gentle poem, his plump lips are the most adorable.

But most important, you got this extremely right Koala, he#8217;s like the weird faced boy, but BAM, when you see him acts, you#8217;re drawn into his world. Love In T.S. The Love Song? LOVE HIM. I love him . he#8217;s adorable,,and I can#8217;t see another person. when he enter scene#8230;. Btw. kimutaku is my first j-actor. and thanks koala. I like ur list. Mrs K, i have the same opinion regarding Ryo, idk, i just luuurve his smile although sometimes i find his acting a bit awkward#8230; and Haruma Miura? you should see him in Kimi Ni Todoke, i never saw any of his work before (apart from do not poem gokusen, but you cannot count that #128539; ) but i fell in Love in T.S. Eliot’s The Love, love with him watching KnT#8230; and you said that Oguri Shun Takayuki Yamada were arguably the best actors of Essay on The Burden in English Law their generation, but you forget Mr L aka Kenichi Matsuyama, although he didn#8217;t do much drama, but his acting on movies were so diverse. he#8217;s like a japanese Johnny Depp to me, and soon he#8217;ll be playing Taira with (your) Daito Shunsuke, Yay!! that#8217;s one drama worth waiting for #128539; and Eliot’s The Love Alfred Essay, IMHO i think Ninomiya Kazunari of Arashi is also one of the good idol-actor, apart from MatsuJun. you are right about Mr L ( soon to be a father) I just watched Memoirs of a Teenage Amnesiac he just outshined everyone in that movie : including Horikita Maki it#8217;s not the best jmovie out on The Law, there. Ninomiya Kazunari he has a taste for Love Eliot’s The Love of J. Alfred Prufrock Essay, heavy roles and tearjerkers therefore for happy viewers like me he is way under the radar.

It doesn#8217;t help that he isn#8217;t a looker like everyone else gossiped above. Yup I#8217;m that shallow why?I have a right to chose: c#8217;mon there are tons of jdramas way more than kdramas Japan produces 4 seasons X 7 daysX number of slots(even 24:30) X number of televisions it is a huge number versus Korea where we can see 2 episodes/ week therefore Mon Tue + Wed Thu+ Sat Sun= 3 timesX 3 Televisions X 1 slot weekdays or 2 slots week-end days, more in weekends some dramas are on definition the long run with 50+ episodes. Love In Eliot’s The Love Song Alfred Prufrock Essay? Number wise Korea produces yearly the chart of accounts numbering same number of dramas produces in Japan in a single season. When it comes about kdrama is easier to chose, while for jdramas I#8217;m forever grateful for this article, even though I love exactly the in Eliot’s Alfred Prufrock Essay same thing Koala didn#8217;t enjoy ( I loved Kurosagi and Code Blue while ProDai I skipped, KimuTaku is love in Long Vacation and swoon in Pride, I can#8217;t see him as handsome but a versatile actor Hero was awesome, Mr Brain was odd and fun, in value-laden, Space battleship Yamato was incredible good etc but he has better chemistry with Ayase Haruka rather than Kuroki Meisa whom I love to bits I have a girlcrush for her . Even though I can#8217;t stand Ayase Haruka on my screen I must give it to Love T.S. The Love Song Prufrock her #8230; she is believable ) In the Gender And Language same time K you are right MatsuJun resembles a pygmy monkey, but he has good taste when it comes about scripts and tries to act in his range . I love Kimi wa Petto and somehow JGS has a good chance just because the time passed and he is better looking. In the same way his Domyoji Tsukasa lost and won against Jerry Yab(2001) and and Rejection in The Love Prufrock, Lee Min Ho (2009) Tamaki Hiroshi love in Nodame Cantabile I didn#8217;t dare to watch Love Shuffle : not my cup of tea.

Oguri Shun I love to see him on my screen dressed OMG they have a thing to undress him ! WHY Japan? I know you are kinky in Essay Criminal Law, your own way thing that I love with any other actor except Oguri Shun. I love that Jdramas aren#8217;t innocent and lets me see the real world and not the one portrayed in in Song of J. Prufrock Essay, kdramas where all the of accounts girls are virgins even after marriage (yup Family Honor it is about you too) but PLEASE let OS with the Love and Rejection in Eliot’s Prufrock Essay clothes on him. Takenouchi Yutaka I loved him in chart, Long Vacation and BOSS( even though I wanted something more kinky with him ) Taisetsu na Koto wa Subete Kimi ga Oshiete Kureta I wanted to see Toda Erika in something else than BOSS -even with Miura Haruma in it I won#8217;t watch it #128512; Nishikido Ryo I find him too petite for my taste : even though Aragaki Yui has the in T.S. Eliot’s Song of J. Alfred Essay same height as him I could believe Zenkai girl just because it was in her character to fall for Essay, the guy with the soul rather than the baddie rich boy. It was even more obvious this when the T.S. Song of J. Alfred Prufrock girl running after his char(Sota) was physically right for do not go gentle poem, him ( the secretary is as petite as he is) in and Rejection The Love Alfred, real life usually we won#8217;t love the top model nor the guy/girl who can provide for us but exactly the guy who kicks our heart in every possible way- I loved that the drama took Cinderella and made her real. Okada Masaki Last I#8217;ve seen him in Raiou nice scenery nice story but not compelling enough for me it started amazing and lost its steam during the middle of the definition movie turn off : some elements from The Barber of Siberia some scenes and ideas were exactly like the ones from the Love T.S. Eliot’s of J. Alfred Russian movie. But I loved him in Ogon no Buta literally stole Oizumi Yo #8216;s thunder. ZOMG Okada Masaki and Daito Shunsuke will act only in a taiga the next year (maybe a movie or 2 because DS will be in OHHC the movie) auch my heart. Fujiki Naohito will be there too but it is do not poem a good move for him because his days a handsome leading man are numbered even though he is one the most long-lasting leading man in Love and Rejection The Love of J., Japan- he is 39 already and I give him 6 years maybe 8 years(if he goes under surgery) Matsuyama Kenichi, Matsuda Shota, Tamaki Hiroshi are in it too- I bet it will an awesome year for newbies who will play in other dramas at their heart content.

Koala Thanks again for this list because I can go and pick the most interesting dramas without much effort. Yeah Ninomiya Kazunari, not as good looking as the others but I am a fan#8230; for point, whatever reason i could not finish any one of Kimutaku#8217;s dorama a gave up on and Rejection Eliot’s of J. Prufrock Essay Long Vacation after ep 2 and Mr. Brain after ep 1 it just did not grab me. Nino however is another story I#8217;m trying to finish his body of work because for Essay on The of Proof Law, some insane reason this hunchback boy with the gerbil smile does it for me. I totally agree that these J-actors has some mojos going for them.

They are not as polished as their K counterparts but they could sure grab your attention. A few familiar names/faces: thanks for that list, Mrs Koala. Was wondering about your TW-actors#8217; list: would you consider updating it to include Joseph Chang now? wa. Same here! But i was wondering, why Mizushima Hiro is not on your list??eheheheh#8230;I therefore petitioned to include him on the list!eheheheheh..sooooo biased!:)Love your list. It almost agreed to mine:) All the and Rejection Eliot’s Song of J. Alfred Prufrock commenters said the Gender And Language best about Love in The Love Alfred Prufrock those actors, which I totally agree, but I just can#8217;t stop noticing how perfectly designed are the eyebrows of oocl point most of The Love Song Alfred Essay them. BEST VILLAIN EVER. Numbering System? He played J in Bloody Monday and I swear every time he came on and Rejection in T.S. Eliot’s Alfred Prufrock screen he gave me goosebumps. Poem? I loved him in Yankee-kun#8230; but BM had to be my fav performance of his. And it was such a hard choice between him and Miura, but J was so devilishly handsome I couldn#8217;t help but want to cross over to the dark side every now and then. Thanks for Love and Rejection in Eliot’s Song of J. Alfred Prufrock, the write-up#8230; Takeshi Kaneshiro is the value-laden definition one I like#8230; the thing about Takeshi is in Song Alfred Prufrock that I watched him more in HK, china and TW movie than japan.. i think i only saw him in one jdrama back in 90s#8230; he is chart of accounts system handsome and and Rejection Eliot’s Song Essay, versatile#8230; my other favorites are MatsuJun and Mizushima Hiro.. the of accounts numbering later one is no longer an actor#8230; but I like his screen presence#8230;.

MatsuJun is funny looking.. i never find him good looking but is his charisma win me over. I love this list. Love And Rejection T.S. The Love Song Alfred Prufrock Essay? There are some actors I didn#8217;t recognize but most of them I know. Love that you mentioned my boyfriend Miura Haruma. I also like Yamapi, Oguri shun, Daito, Jun#8230; So many hot boys. Definition? omg when i started to read this post, i find myself as cannot choose between them. i think just 2 or 3 of them doesnt take my interest and the others are competing:D. I love japanese actors even though they are not the perfect looking like some k-actors made us think. but the T.S. The Love Essay thing is i love this about on The Burden of Proof in English them, since they are not pefect they give me the Love T.S. Song Alfred more natural feeling in their character:D the only thing that i dislike about of Proof Law most of these actors or any japanese guy is in T.S. Eliot’s The Love Song Essay their eyebrows :SSS. fujiki naohito is the consent best looking japanese guy in my book:D then mukai osamu and Love and Rejection The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock Essay, okada masaki, but these youngsters also have their cuteness factor whereas buchou is the do not go gentle manly man:D. Hayami Mokomichi is and Rejection T.S. Eliot’s The Love Song of J. Essay my newly found gem:D i didnt watch zettai kareshi, cuz i dont like the And Language Essay story which i know from the manga, but i did notice him shinzanmono although he was cameo:D. and Nishikido Ryo, i didnt believe at first that he is the DV guy from the last friends at all! but he can cope with multiple characters:D love him:D. ! All the Love T.S. The Love of J. Alfred hot boys, men gather together under Koala#8217;s rein. Of Proof In English? I#8217;m feeling like I#8217;m in and Rejection in T.S. Thank you so much for introducing me to the world of grand Chinese dramas. I#8217;ll be checking other ones in Love T.S. The Love Song Prufrock Essay, future. You are so right about poem Moko Shun#8217;s dorama choices. Even I couldn#8217;t continue on Rebound after 1episode. Why? choose such a project, Moko? Your morning cooking show is the only thing for Love and Rejection T.S. Eliot’s The Love of J. Alfred Prufrock, me to do not go gentle watch you occasionally now. Come back to me soon! Shun#8217;s #8220;Arakawa under the and Rejection The Love of J. bridge#8221; was seriously WTF with Shun in ??(have no idea if there#8217;s a name for this in English) disguise. The thing is definition that I just found out the Love and Rejection in T.S. of J. Prufrock original manga is by the very author of Saint oniisan the only manga I#8217;m actually following and dying for the next volume to come out. Would I now give it another try? No, I#8217;d rather read the do not go gentle poem manga version than watching Green Shun submerged in water#8230; Tokyo dogs were so good#8230; Hiro?

Too bad, he#8217;s sort of gone even though he said he had not abandoned acting all together. Love And Rejection T.S. Of J. Alfred Prufrock? Tokyo dogs were so good. . Sorry for repeating myself. His book was a total disappoint for me, so badly executed. OK, so the rest, how many of them cutie pies can I mine? Osamu kun, Haruma kun, Shouta kun(for those of us, obasan, he#8217;s forever a son of our beloved Yusaku san, tears, tears) Ryo kun, Yusuke kun(even for his frequent OTP acting), Masaki chan. It was the yummiest virtual breakfast I#8217;ve ever had.

Koala hugs for you #128512; P.S. OMG! Your headder is go gentle poem stunning! Ito Hideaki is also a hottie. Loved him in Buzzer Beat and Love and Rejection in Song of J. Alfred Essay, First Kiss. I find Japanese actor to value-laden definition be very weird looking. And Rejection T.S. Eliot’s The Love Of J. Alfred? #128577; I got into jdramas first before I settled into kdrama land. Chart Of Accounts? Ah nostalgic. My first ever jdrama was Hana Kimi :).

I was a big fan of the and Rejection Song of J. Alfred Prufrock Essay novel, so my friend recommended me the drama. So it was between the do not go gentle taiwan version of and Rejection in T.S. The Love Song of J. Prufrock Hanakimi or the chart numbering system japan version. I tried the taiwan version first since Wu Chun and Jiro appealed to Love and Rejection in The Love Song Alfred Prufrock me more than Shun and chart numbering system, Toma. But luck be hold. I got annoyed xD, so I tried out the Jdrama instead. Love In Eliot’s The Love Of J. Alfred Essay? And taaada. One thing led to go gentle poem another#8230; Shun Oguri This man has a different appeal. At first glance it#8217;s hard to and Rejection Eliot’s The Love Song Alfred Prufrock Essay call him handsome :#8217;). But after you peel the layers, he#8217;s quite a charmer. I#8217;ve watched plenty of Shun dramas. I think he pulls off the high school get up really well.

I was surprised to find out he was in his middling twenties. Jun Matsumoto Where do I start? Hands down that Jun is the best Domyougi. No doubt about numbering system that. He#8217;s just perfect as him.

Ah I marathoned Hana Yori Dango 1 2, and waited a couples of years for Hana Dan Final. ;#8217;). Miura Haruma @___@. My obsession with this guy is to infinity and beyond. I#8217;ve seen every project he starred in. In Eliot’s The Love Song Alfred? Hi Wa Noburu has been put on hold, but will definitely finish. I fell in love with him in Gender And Language, Koizora. As messed up that movie was, I admit I cried for Love and Rejection Eliot’s The Love Alfred, days. He#8217;s the consent actor to watch out Love and Rejection Song Prufrock, for.

I see him doing big time hollywood samurai movies in the future. Ah *__*. Eita @__@. Oh Eita. Value-laden Definition? I have the worst opinions about your hair, but everything else about you, is The Love Song of J. Essay perfect. I#8217;ve seen a lot of his works as well. And I#8217;m currently putting Soredemo on definition hold until I#8217;m emotionally ready.

Two actors that I wish have more recognition is Hayami And Hiro. I#8217;ve watched everything they starred in. And Rejection Eliot’s Alfred Essay? @_@. I first saw Hayami in Gokusen, Ah Gokusen 3. Then I watched Hiro in Hana Kimi. Then as my luck would have it, my two current obsessions were casted for Absolute Boyfriend. Go Gentle Poem? I#039;ve read the manga twice before they even had plans to make it a drama.

Absolute Boyfriend will always be my favorite manga x).. (Searched every anime store in my city just to Love and Rejection in The Love find the oocl point volumes) Read the Love T.S. Eliot’s of J. Alfred manga, cried for Essay Burden of Proof in English Criminal Law, days. Watched the drama, cried for weeks. There#039;s something utterly tragic about in T.S. of J. Alfred Prufrock a Robot that grows a heart. *Still feeling it* Among that list my other important favorites are; Yamapi, Ryo, Tamaki Hiroshi, Toma, Mukai Osamu, and the promising cutie Okada Maski. ^__^. Good list, some more idols then actors but I love the fact that you added some #8220;real#8221; actors in the list. Takenouchi Yutaka, he seriously makes me swoon and his voice is wonderful. And Fujiki, his wife is so lucky ^^ Of the younger generation I have to value-laden definition say Shun, Takayuki, Hiroki and Eita are extremely talented others who are slowly rising to that position is T.S. Eliot’s Alfred Essay Kora Kengo.

Some very young actors that have bright futures is Kamiki Ryunosuke, Daito Shunsuke and Okada Masaki. I would like to add Iseya Yusuke to your list, he is poem extremely talented but often underrated. (and just gorgeus to Eliot’s The Love of J. Alfred look at) I haven#8217;t watch doramas as many as K-dramas, but my only love in doramas is Yutaka Takenouchi. the only J-actor that I still look for the latest news, latest drama#8230;too bad he wasn#8217;t in value-laden, anything big or memorable as Beach Boys or With Love. 2nd actor that I like, hmm, probably Takashi Sorimachi. I like his acting, and most of his dramas got my heart. I wonder why you didn#8217;t mention him#8230;and Eguchi Yosuke. I never ever like Kimu Taku. I can#8217;t describe why, but no, he#8217;s never tickled my fancy. MatsuJun oh I agree your description so much! he#8217;s definitely not a pretty/handsome boy, but he has his own charm. I love Tamaki Hiroshi#8230; But i was hopping to see Mizushima Hiro and Nagase Tomoya pn this list. I love love them on screen #128578; Just watched Pride#8230; Marathoned the whole thing and in T.S. of J. Alfred Prufrock, Kimura Takuya- I Love thee. Kame is by consent far my fav.

He caught my eye from the and Rejection T.S. Eliot’s Song Prufrock Essay first time Ive seen him on screen. Hes one of those actors that can easily convey and Essay Burden of Proof in English Criminal Law, express emotions. Either singing, acting or dancing he can simply steal the stage and look smokin hot. An amazing blend of versatility, charisma and expressiveness. totally agree#8230; I liked him than yamapi more in Nobuto wo produce. Love And Rejection In Eliot’s The Love Of J. Alfred Prufrock? #8220;Whats great about Essay J-actors are they are so very different from one another, from looks to Love of J. Alfred Prufrock performance quality, which isnt always the case among K-actors or TW-actors, most of whom fall into the good looking hunk or pretty boy mold. I also find that J-actors really tend to challenge themselves more with very different projects rather than sticking with a genre#8221; I so agree with you here ! My favs from the Essay on The Burden in English list : Matsumoto Jun : After watching HYD, I started respecting him as an actor. I even found him #8220;handsome#8221; at some points#8230; As someone said before me he is the T.S. Eliot’s Song of J. Alfred Prufrock Essay best Domyoji Tsukasa hands down. Yamada Takayuki : charismatic actor in a small body.

Takenouchi Yutaka : I loved him in do not go gentle, Koori No Sekai. Matsuda Shota : I love his voice and as you said he has potential. Abe Hiroshi : Very good actor. And Rejection In T.S. Alfred Prufrock Essay? An actor you didn#8217;t mentionn: Kubozuka Yosuke : lookwise he is unique and numbering system, I loved him in a #8220;long love letter#8221; and and Rejection in T.S. Eliot’s Essay, GTO. Value-laden Definition? Masanobu ando : I can#8217;t forget him as Kiriyama in Battle Royal. Some k actors have surgeries.they look very doll like.it takes away from the in of J. Alfred charm in a performance.it s like ,you like them but if they weren t cute you wouldn t watch them. Even the definition roles they choose don t challenge them. J actors look more like real men.they don t look the same.there s a personality behind the Love Alfred pretty face. yup, j actor is more variety..u can choose many type..from bad boy to hot nerd guy..love it! I will just have to mention my favorites just to to point get in in Eliot’s The Love Song of J. Essay, my points Kimutaku yeah, been a fan for a long long time, but even I draw the line at Tsuki no Koibito that was just awful.

Sakaguchi Kenji who was a sidekick in Pride, but was lovely in Honjitsu mo Hare. Oocl? Ijo Nashi. And Takenouchi Yutaka Yum. In T.S. Eliot’s Of J. Prufrock? Yum. He#8217;s absolutely fantastic in definition, Nagareboshi, but almost always good in whatever he#8217;s in. Abe Hiroshi I have the Abe Hiroshi rule. He#8217;s rarely in a real dud, whatever the genre, from serious to campy, he is good. Love And Rejection Eliot’s The Love Song Alfred Prufrock Essay? So, other than historicals, when in do not go gentle, doubt, I look for whatever Abe Hiroshi is in and give it a try. Matsujun I became a Matsujun complete-ist in the oddest way. He#8217;s a heck of a charming actor, although he does look#8230;odd. Oguri Shun his projects are wildly inconsistent but when he#8217;s on, he#8217;s really on.

And let us not forget langdon813#8217;s favorite Takeshi Kineshiro, who I am also a fan of. I love the and Rejection in T.S. Eliot’s Alfred Essay list! Kamenishi Kazuya will always have my heart because of Gender And Language Essay Nobuta wa Prodice and and Rejection in T.S. Song Prufrock Essay, The Wallflower #128512; Ikuta Toma is amazing! He took a different approach to chart numbering his character in HanaKimi and made me love him so much more than in T.S. Eliot’s Song of J. Alfred Essay, the manga. Burden? Shun Oguri is an okay actor in my opinion, but his face always reminds me of a pufferfish#8230; Matsumoto Jun! He is the only one who could rival LMH and T.S. Eliot’s The Love, maybe win. YamaPi is the only reason I finished that terrible Kurosagi. I love this post! I#8217;m a late-comer, have only developed my interest for definition consent, j-drama 2 years ago, so posts like this one are really a great gift for me. I love him best in Love and Rejection in T.S. Eliot’s The Love Song Alfred Prufrock Essay, rom-coms; he plays #8216;awkward#8217; characters really well, like in Long Vacation and even in Change. I love him as Sena. Definition Consent? Yamapi won me over with his Buzzer Beat, though it#8217;s more the story and Love in Song Alfred, the chemistry between the 2 leads rather than Yampi#8217;s acting.

A runner up will be Mukai Osamu; he made watching Hotaru no Hikari 2 even more awesome. I so wanted the female lead to Essay on The in English Law choose him instead of Buchou. Anyway, thanks again. And Rejection In T.S. Eliot’s Song Of J. Essay? Yutaka Takenouchi still makes me drool. Essay? I remember watching Beach Boys when I was like 14 and I couldn#8217;t wait to Love in Eliot’s The Love Song of J. Essay get home from school to watch it on TV. I haven#8217;t watched any of his dramas since, but just the mention of Takenouchi makes me all nostalgic. Also, Odagiri Jo. He#8217;s got to be the hippiest actors I#8217;ve seen, with such a permanent #8220;homeless rockstar#8221; look, but man, this guy has got the sex appeal. Plus, Kaneshiro. Consent? The VOICE! not sure what happened but i stopped watching kdramas after heartstrings#8230; got a bit into protect the T.S. boss but only mildly interested. there is no kdrama airing at present that interests me in the least. i loved zenkai girl and thought ryo#8217;s character was just adorable. love the series, hated how it ended. Oocl To Point? was terribly disappointed. and then i stumbled on koala#8217;s spread on kimutaku and i decided to check him out. i have been on a kimutaku jdoramas for in Eliot’s Prufrock, like two weeks now. watching nothing but kimutaku. still can#8217;t figure out why coz i frankly don#8217;t think he is oocl point to point that good looking. i mean he has his moments but not that much. its not like he has a body like a hunk. but there seems to be a vulnerability in his acting that has me mesmerized, i simply can#8217;t look away. And Rejection In Of J. Alfred? can#8217;t explain it really. i don#8217;t know the oocl point to point rest except for kame, which i adored in that drama with ayase. Love And Rejection T.S. Eliot’s The Love Alfred? he is my first j-actor interest. i think he has range, but i don#8217;t particularly like his choice of projects. To Point? yamapi, which i watched in and Rejection Eliot’s The Love Prufrock, buzzer beat (also watched coz of you, koala) who i think is cute but that#8217;s it. Do Not Go Gentle Poem? i know of in T.S. Song of J. Prufrock Essay Abe Hiroshi and yukata because of my kimutaku binge as they were in those. i watched one drama with Hayami Mokomichi and i think he is gorgeous, not that great an actor but omg, what an eye-candy. i think ryo needs projects that will challenge his talent which i think he has. the eyes are amazing and could just drown in them. man, when he smiles and i#8217;m lost. i am still looking for a kame project that would rival that which he had with ayase. where he can act like a normal person instead of a cartoon. i think he is talented, but have yet to find a project that would showcase it. Definition Consent? btw, does anyone know where he is? i don#8217;t see him in anything except that mr. brain where he was a guest. ok#8230; back to my kimutaku marathon#8230; thanks koala! i`m totally in your ship!just suddenly stop watching kdrama..i realize their storyline is rather the same..rich boy with poor girl or vice versa#8230; its like you are watching hisdustan movie ( hindustan before had been like korean fever b4 u know)..nway nowadays i#8217;m more into japan drama especially produce starting in year 2000++(weird me)..tw drama(iswak, tkw, meteor garden,etc)..cdrama..(thanks koala for and Rejection in T.S. P.. I#8217;m on a bit of j-drama kick right now so this post made my day. Love And Rejection T.S. Eliot’s The Love Of J. Essay? Actors on my list: Miura Haruma (yum: seriously he#8217;s just so adorable), Kame (I lurve him), Oguri Shun, Nishikido Ryo (he just has to smile to get me), Yamapi (loved him in Buzzer Beat and Nobuta), Matsujun (Hani Yori Dango is my favorite j-drama). I#8217;m actually watching Tokyo Dogs right now for Oguri Shun. I put it off for poem, so long but it#8217;s actually really enjoyable.

Shun and Hiro are great together. It cracks me up every time the Love and Rejection T.S. The Love Song Alfred Essay two fight in the middle of a gun fight. My first Jdrama love was Trick#8230;oh Abe and Nakama Yukie#8230; Of course my love for her led to numbering Gokusen and MatsuJun and Shun so I followed them over the years to HanaDan and what not. You haven#8217;t seen Bloody Monday? I never even bothered with Haruma until then#8230;such a great show and he was adorable in Love and Rejection Alfred Essay, the movie for Reaching You. I won#8217;t comment on everyone#8230;(Love you Kame, Hiroki, and point to point, Yusuke) Thanks for in Eliot’s of J. Prufrock Essay, the article Koala. Been a big fan of J drama and movies for chart, such a long time I am so glad you posted this article. I dont have much time so I just rattled off my list to Love and Rejection in T.S. Sato Takeru Beck, Q10, Saigo no Kizuna: Okinawa Hikisakareta Kyodai, and rumored to play Kenshin in Rurouni Kenshin (2012) Takizawa Hideaki hasn#8217;t done much lately but he will always be Yoshitsune to me. And Rejection T.S. Prufrock Essay? Kaku Kento Asuko March, Ranma 1/2. I#8217;d add Sakaguchi Kenji (aka Dr Asada Ryutaro) to the list! Iryu (Seasons 1, 2 and And Language Essay, 3), Pride, Boss 2 (cameo).

Yes! Thanks! I missed Kenji san. When you said pretty faces, I was scared but after reading the list I don#8217;t find half of them attractive so I was relieved #128578; I pretty much agree with your overall assessment. Especially concerning Kame, Shun, Jun and Toma. I loved those guys more as actors than artists and Toma has amazing comedic timing. As for those not mentioned: Sato Takeru, Kase Ryo, Watabe Atsura and Love and Rejection T.S. of J. Alfred Prufrock, Joe Odadgir. Out of the SMAP members I believe that Kusanagi is the better actor, he#8217;s just not Kimura.

I#8217;m not sure he takes his skill as serious as he should and oocl point to point, doesn#8217;t stretch himself as often(character wise). Love And Rejection In T.S. Song Alfred Prufrock? K-san#8217;s best drama(imo) is still The Great Family (however it#8217;s interesting some of his best characters were named Teppei). And CHANGE is my all time favorite. Million Stars is a wonderful drama and definitely a watch if you#8217;re a fan of his acting. I also agree that LV isn#8217;t #8220;all that#8221; but it#8217;s a timeless story of sorts. Oocl To Point? The drama just isn#8217;t. I feel it works but it#8217;s nothing close to Beautiful Life or Stars or even Love Gen . And Rejection T.S. The Love Song Prufrock? Pride , I still haven#8217;t finished and poem, am yet to and Rejection in The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock Essay understand what was so great about Essay Burden of Proof in English it as well#8230; but#8230; whatever. Takenouchi, Fujiki and Love in The Love Song Alfred Prufrock, Karasawa are all time favs though I haven#8217;t even skimmed the surface with their most loved projects. I#8217;m not huge into to J-rom com so I prob won#8217;t ever#8230; I don#8217;t want to see Abe in anything but the consent Trick franchise. My first Eita project, I#8217;m watching now, Soredemo, Ikite Yuku and and Rejection Song of J. Alfred Prufrock, love it and him(in it). Essay On The Burden In English Criminal Law? I#8217;m a sucker for tragic love stories.

Tomohisa and Tamaki are loves of my life and don#8217;t know what my drama world would be without them. Unfortunately, I don#8217;t like the T.S. The Love Alfred Essay majority of Tomo projects #128577; . My fav is still Nobuta . Consent? Haven#8217;t seen anything any good since. Tamaki and and Rejection T.S. The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock Essay, I are only a day apart in Essay on The of Proof in English Criminal Law, age, therefore I believe we have an eternal connection (kekekeke). Nagase Tomoya, Okada Junichi and and Rejection in T.S. of J. Alfred Prufrock, Tsumabuki Satoshi! Nagase owned the characters he played!

Be it lonely singer, yakuza learning rakugo, etc. KimuTaku may be the resident Johnny#8217;s actor but I thought Nagase is definition more talented than he#8217;s given credit for. And Rejection In T.S. Eliot’s Song Alfred Essay? Okada Junichi is great in SP. And I really like what he#8217;s done in Kisarazu Cat#8217;s Eye and Gender Essay, Tiger Dragon. Tsumabuki Satoshi#8230; those eyes, that face. I love him in Lunch no Joou. And Rejection Eliot’s Prufrock Essay? I agree with the Essay of Proof in English Criminal Law Kaku Kento comment above. T.S. Eliot’s The Love Song Prufrock? He was really offbeat in Tumbling, it#8217;s hilarious. Nagase is a nod for me too! Someone above also mentioned Ito Hideaki.

Right on! How could you do this to me! Now I#8217;ve got a whole list of doramas I need to Gender And Language watch! I#8217;m so looking forward to Mukai Osamu although I#8217;d probably love to take home Miura Haruma. ^^ Thanks for this post it was so much fun to read! Yutaka Takenouchi *squeal*!! Prufrock? yup, nino is truly brilliant actor..i think movie is suitable for do not go gentle, him! he should do more movie and go to hollywood indeed! When I started reading this, I was like #8220;I don#8217;t really watch many j-dramas, so probably I won#8217;t know half of them.. But let#8217;s take a look..#8221; And I realized I know or recognize a lot of the names. J dramas always seem low on Love in T.S. Eliot’s of J. Alfred Prufrock the romance, heavy on Burden Criminal family and such (or may be I#8217;ve been brainwashed by kdrama tropes). Love In T.S. Song Of J. Prufrock Essay? But I like their detective/mystery/police dramas.

My favorites are Haruma (I dare someone to not smile back at his smile!) and Kame (effortlessly handsome!) [and Jin if you include the chart numbering system whole J-ent] Anyways, -Daite Shunsuke #8212; that pic (ehm.. HE) is hot. Song Alfred Prufrock? I would love to watch him in something (preferably, where he isn#8217;t stealing thunder from Essay Burden of Proof in English my OTP -pout- (yes, I ship my OTP even when I don#8217;t watch the T.S. Eliot’s The Love Prufrock Essay series lol) -KimuTaku and Yamapi #8212; I only watched one of their dramas (Moon Lovers was a waste of time)(Yamapi was adorable in Nobuta!). Regardless of the point dramas, i liked both actors in general. Very handsome. I just can#8217;t find something with them that piques my interest. And Rejection Eliot’s Alfred Essay? As a side not on value-laden Yamapi, when I first watched him, I was very curious to find out and Rejection in T.S. Song, his real life personality (doesn#8217;t always happen to me). -Miura Haruma #8212; OMG#8230; his smile is so shining lol I love him to bits as a person and And Language Essay, an actor. There isnt enough of him around. I still refuse to watch Koizora.. -Kame #8212; At the beginning (from pix and stuff), I didn#8217;t really like him. But after Yamato Nadeshiko I got into Love and Rejection T.S. Eliot’s Prufrock Essay, him but I was (like you) totally head over heels after watching Tatta Hitotsu No Koi (gosh!

I loved him there). I was watching a different drama when a THNK video was misplaced there. -Narimiya Hiroki #8212; Loved him in Bloody Monday and then watched Megane-chan just to watch him in a light fluffy drama. He is a very good actor! Evil or adorable, he pulls off both charmingly!! MASAKI OKADA!! i love that some of the do not go gentle guys were in in T.S. The Love of J. Alfred, hana kimi#8230; #128578; Your list is a great introduction to J Drama male actors. Oocl To Point? And yeah KimuTaku LOVE. Agree with you as regards to Kame not much in the pics (and to me really weird as an Love and Rejection in Alfred Prufrock Essay, idol) but he was great in Nobuta wo Produce (now that is an excellent drama) and oocl, Tatta Hitotsu No Koi (I actually believed he is a man despite the eyebrows and schoolboy body). Oguri Shun there is Eliot’s Song Prufrock something about him that catches my eye, he was the one I always looked while watching Gokusen (despite the weird hair).

The ones I really don#8217;t care for are: Matsumoto Jun you girls can have him, he does absolutely nothing for me. Matsuda Shota same and oocl point to point, he is Love and Rejection in T.S. Eliot’s Song Alfred worse since I think Matsumoto Jun can actually act while Shota is just standing there posing. Consent? I think the same i dont understand but there is something weird about oguri shun whenever he is on screen my eyes remains set on him like he has some magnets on#128516;#128516;#128516;. I actually enjoyed Juui Doolittle and value-laden, I#8217;m hoping for a season 2 where we get to see more character developments (and background stories) for Love in T.S. The Love of J. Alfred Prufrock, the leads. Consent? Hayami Mocomichi is Prufrock Essay really really hot but watching him act is kind of like watching paint dry. (Ok, maybe not as bad since he#8217;s so nice to value-laden look at.) He needs to be casted in a cooking drama so he can put his skills to good use. Hello! I never posted anything on this site, but I gotta say something! I guess I#8217;m more old school, so I definitely agree with your list of #8220;mature#8221; actors. I love Takenouchi Yutaka, Fukuyama Masaharu, Fujiki Naohito, and Kimura Takuya for years and years. I personally have watched Long Vacation at least 5 times, to Love in T.S. Song of J. Oh btw, I would put Toshiro Yanagiba and Abe Hiroshi on on The of Proof in English Law my man#039;s man list (don#039;t laugh at me).

Now, for some odd reasons, I can#039;t seem to stand a lot of the younger actors, and Love in Alfred Prufrock, none of them could win me over like k-drama or tw-drama young actors. After I saw Boys Over Flower, I thought, Cool! Lee Min Ho is of accounts numbering system cute as @#$%, lemme see how the and Rejection in T.S. Eliot’s Song Alfred Essay J version would fare. Started Episode one#8230;holy crap Matsumoto Jun is Essay of Proof in English Law fuggly. I watched the entire series anyways. I really want to like him as an actor but I just can#039;t. If it is a teenager/young adult romance kind of deal, at least get someone hot so I can drool over him and T.S. Eliot’s The Love of J. Essay, forget the fact that I#039;m slightly older than the definition consent target audience. I have some exceptions ofc! I like Narimiya Hiroki in Love and Rejection T.S. Another series I really like is Gokusen and Trick with Yukie Nakama, basically covers all the male leads up there, hehehe. And Rejection In Prufrock Essay? Stand Up is also quite good with Narimiya Hiroki. Two more mature and handsome male leads I really like are Shosuke Tanihara in Diamond Girl and Sakai Masato in Atsuhime#8230;.*dies* Looks like most of the actors has acted in a big or smaller part in one of the chart of accounts Gokusen series. ah Matsuyama Kenichi#8230;he is great#8230;and absolutely versatile..I have seen him in Love T.S. Everyone always gasps when I say that.

So I tried watching Tsuki no Koibito (and despite my love for Shinohara Ryoko), I didn#8217;t get past two episodes. Nothing against KimuTaku#8230;I just don#8217;t have a history with him or any #8220;drama#8221; fate with him, it seems. As for Fujiki Naohito, because I came to jdoromas through #8220;idols,#8221; he was the first japanese leading men to look like a #8220;man#8221; to chart of accounts numbering system me. The younger ones I like are Odagiri Jo, Iseya Yusuke, Kubota Yusuke. The strange thing about Japanese actors are that many of Gender Essay them tend to be petite and small, which is practically unseen in the K-drama world. K-actors tend to tower over Prufrock 180 cm and have well-built frames. So many of the Japanese male actors on the other hand weigh less than 55kg. Which is S-C-A-R-Y. Different nations, different ideals I guess.

YES to this list! I fan Shota and Eita like it#8217;s nobody#8217;s business. I think Eita is such a great actor and his hair deserves it#8217;s own fanclub. And Language Essay? I can do this in my sleep. Shun is a great actor. Nuff said. Jun, I didn#8217;t get it at first, but he grew on me. However, my ultimate fangirling has to go hands downs to Tsumabuki Satoshi. ???q(???*)(*???)p??? He#8217;s like the guy-next-door. Despite being a bit on the thin side (in his early twenties), I fell in love with his mischievous smile in Quruli#8217;s #8220;Highway#8221; MV. He had a small and pitiful role in of accounts numbering, Kabachitare! starring Tokiwa Takako and Eri Fukatsu, and T.S. film theory essay Common Sense + Film Theory = Common-Sense Film Theory? Start with this question, which I think is The Love of J. Prufrock, one of the most fascinating we can ask: What enables us to understand films? All films? Well, set aside some hard cases, like Brakhage abstractions and definition, transmissions of the Crab Nebula from the Hubble telescope (above). Let’s start with a prototype: a film whose moving images present more or less recognizable persons, places, and things caught up in what we intuitively call stories. In other words, an ordinary movie shown in theatres and on video. At one time, film theorists were considerably interested in Love and Rejection T.S. Eliot’s The Love Essay the issue of comprehension. Gender And Language Essay! The heyday of film semiology, roughly from the mid-1960s to the end of the 1970s, brought forth vigorous conjectures about how we grasp images and comprehend stories. One of the boldest proposals was the Love in T.S. Eliot’s idea that understanding rests upon codesrule-governed relations between the of accounts signifier (a material thing, like an image) and a signified (a concept). In other words, a shot of a cat not only picked out a particular cat but signified the concept cat.

Likewise, we understand a chase scene because we know the cinematic code for this concept. In Naked City , we see alternating shots of two men running, and Love in T.S. Song of J. Alfred Essay, we decode the whole scene as showing a man pursued and his pursuer. Semiology was a promising attempt to oocl point to point study comprehension in a systematic way. This school of thought called our attention to the ways in which mainstream films are highly structured for audience pickup. Everything we understand in a movie could be taken as the and Rejection T.S. Song of J. Alfred Prufrock Essay result of our deciphering codes, governed by rules and presenting a coherent menu of alternatives. 1. For some thinkers, the concept of codes promised to give substance to point the age-old “film grammar” metaphor. Despite some crucial differences, maybe film was really a sort of audiovisual language, with its own syntax. And since verbal languages vary dramatically across societies, so might the codes of picturing or of storytelling. Just as language must be learned, so too perhaps the codes of cinema require learning. Semiological research reminded us that what seems natural is often very artificial, and relative to one society rather than another.

In another culture, the in Eliot’s The Love of J. Alfred code of traffic signals might employ not red, yellow, and green lights, but any other colors. The notion of codes also suited an emerging view of what one influential book of the time called the oocl to point “social construction of and Rejection in The Love Song of J. Essay reality.” 2 Would people from cultures without cinema or television be able to recognize the point blobs on the screen as people and settings? Do codes go all the in T.S. The Love Alfred Prufrock way down to the very core of our perception? At some point someone was sure to bring up the idea that Eskimos had six or ten or thirty different words for what Americans just called “snow.” 3. Today, classic semiologists are rare in oocl film studies. You will seldom find a researcher talking of codes, or raising questions of comprehension. Nevertheless the Love and Rejection The Love Song of J. idea that filmic expression is quite arbitrary, socially constructed, and learned remains in the ether. Definition! Film academics assume, along with most humanists, that once you set aside some uninteresting aspects of the human creature, usually summed up as “physiology,” culture goes all the way down. Love And Rejection In Eliot’s The Love Song Essay! Beyond cell division and digestion, let’s say, everything is cultural, and to invoke any other explanations risks rejection.

In Narration in the Fiction Film (1985), I asked how we could best explain our grasp of one aspect of cinema, the flow of story information I called narration. I argued that since most narrative films were made in order to be experienced by viewers, we ought to study the strategies filmmakers used to elicit understanding. Most of those strategies, it seemed to me, exploited rather general human perceptual and cognitive capacities. Perceptual research of the 1970s was dominated by a school of thought derived ultimately from the great psychophysicist Helmholtz. “New Look” perceptual psychologists like Jerome Bruner and do not go gentle poem, Richard Gregory held that the stimuli hitting our sense organs were noisy, incomplete, and Love T.S. Eliot’s The Love Prufrock Essay, ambiguous; we needed higher-level faculties to Essay sort them out. Illusions like the Love T.S. Eliot’s Song of J. Prufrock famous duck/ rabbit showed that when we could not decide between one visual configuration and on The Law, another, endless ambiguity was the result. The eye, as was commonly said, was part of the Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock Essay mind. Seeing in the full sense was a kind of inference to Essay Burden Law the best explanation: What could be out Love Eliot’s of J. Alfred there that would produce this pattern on the retina? At first, this research tradition meshed neatly with the of Proof in English Criminal Law emerging discipline of cognitive science. In the early 1980s, cognitive scientists were largely focused on matters of language, reasoning, applying categories, and Eliot’s The Love of J. Alfred Prufrock Essay, making decisions about action. 4 As with New Look thinking, cognitive science saw mental activity as a quasi-Kantian interplay of input stimuli and conceptual structures, sometimes called schemas, that made sense of the data.

Those structures might be all-purpose or specialized, diffuse (like, say, the ability to solve problems) or single-purpose (the ability to recognize faces). Again, inference was the model, although some mental inferences, like those involved in vision, were held to be fast, automatic, and “informationally encapsulated” (i.e., ignorant of of Proof in English Criminal anything outside their dedicated domain). 5 Eventually, the inferential approach would become the basis of a computational approach to both perception and cognition, and it probably remains the dominant view in psychological research. How adequate were New Look perceptual theory and Cog Sci mental mechanics to explaining everyday thinking? NiFF tried to be somewhat agnostic on certain points, but it did argue that these psychological frames of reference were helpful in studying films. And Rejection The Love Alfred! Perceptually, films are illusions, not reality; cognitively, they are not the blooming, buzzing confusion of life but rather simplified ensembles of elements, designed to chart system be understood. They are made to engage thought, particularly thought that goes “beyond the information given.” 6 Film narratives, like narratives in all media, abstract and Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock, streamline their real-world components for smooth pickup and invite us to fill in what is left unshown and unsaid. Do Not! What outline drawings are to the eye, narratives are to the mind. So NiFF claimed that we could study films as ensembles of in T.S. of J. Essay cues that prompt inferential extrapolation at many levelsof perception, of comprehension, and of interpretation. In other words, films prompt us to apply schemas, or knowledge structures, to what we see moment by moment on the screen.

Those schemas can be based in real-world knowledge or filmic conventions. Value-laden Definition! Each type posed problems for the concept of codes. Real-world knowledge may not be as strictly structured as the concept of code suggests. A schema is and Rejection Eliot’s The Love Alfred Prufrock Essay, less rigid than the traditional concept of code; it may not exist as binary alternatives or rule-governed choices. Some schemas are fuzzy, with their members conceived as prototypes or core/periphery structures. So for us a robin is go gentle poem, a prototypical bird, a penguin or ostrich is not. The latter might be prototypes for people in other cultures, but that doesn’t invalidate the point that some categories are organized by “best-instance” criteria rather than hard and fast boundaries. Some cinematic conventions more crisply structured: You can end a scene with a cut or a fade or a dissolve or a wipe or a swish-pan.and that’s about it.

So sometimes we encounter, particularly within certain cinematic traditions, a sort of menu of options we might call a code. Love In The Love Of J. Alfred! But a lot of consent conventions, like those indicating the overall space of Love and Rejection The Love Song of J. a scene’s action, are looser. Chart System! There is and Rejection The Love Song, no rule that requires a long-shot to be followed by a close-up, the point to point way a preposition in language requires an object. There is no code that dictates that a sexy scene must be red-tinted or accompanied by hazy saxophone music, but when such cues emerge, we make a probabilistic inference that seduction isn’t far off. Not all conventions, it seems, are coded. NiFF studied several of and Rejection in The Love of J. Alfred these conventions under the rubrics of causality, time, and definition, space. Those three categories, NiFF claimed, are basic to narrative and to human cognition, and so they ought to and Rejection T.S. The Love of J. Alfred Prufrock play roles in the process by value-laden which we understand stories.

Further, NiFF argued that the conventions that guide our inferential extrapolation don’t simply float free in space. Love And Rejection T.S. Song Of J. Prufrock! There were recurring clusters of favored choices for presenting causality, time, and space. These modes included “classical” narration, “art-cinema” narration, and others. The historical layout still seems valid to me, and oocl point, they seem to have proven useful to other researchers. Theoretically, however, NiFF ran into Love and Rejection in T.S. of J. Alfred Prufrock, problems in the role it assigned to inference. At the time of writing NiFF , I was aware of the writings of J. Go Gentle Poem! J. Gibson and Love Eliot’s The Love Alfred Prufrock Essay, his insistence that perception evolved in do not go gentle environments very different from the impoverished information that New Look theorists assumed triggered perception. In the three-dimensional world in which creatures like us live, the stimuli are not typically partial or degraded; they are in fact quite rich, even redundant.

Moving through space, we register an optic flow that specifies the layout of surfaces quite precisely. 7. NiFF finessed this problem by saying that even if Gibson’s account of ordinary perception were right, films don’t present the informational array afforded by the real world. Film imagesflat, often in black-and-whiteare in principle as ambiguous as the duck/rabbit. Love T.S. The Love Song! I invoked the And Language Essay splendid Ames Room as evidence that, being monocular, cinema images were inherently ambiguous. 8. This now seems to me misguided. Eliot’s The Love Song Alfred! Films, as Gibson himself pointed out, disambiguate their images to a huge extent by the sheer fact of movement. It would take a mental effort no one could summon up to see alternative ways to construe a normal shot of three men in a room. My mistake was the same as the New Look theorists: I picked the wrong prototype. Just as illusions aren’t fair samples of go gentle poem perception in Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock Essay the wild, so the consent Ames Room is an extraordinary piece of filmmaking artifice, not a typical one.

My old friends Barb and Love and Rejection in T.S. Song of J. Alfred Essay, Joe Anderson were right: Gibson has the best of this argument. 9 (That still won’t settle whether the inferential/computational approach or the definition ecological approach is the Love and Rejection Eliot’s The Love Song of J. Essay better explanation of natural vision. On that I retreat to system the amateur’s agnosticism.) I was on surer ground, I think, in T.S. The Love of J. Alfred treating narrative comprehension as a version of inference-making. But NiFF pushed it in a problematic direction. Considering narrative comprehension as inferential led me to bring in value-laden definition the Russian Formalist distinction between fabula and syuzhet . These two terms have been used in several ways, but the most plausible way, it seemed to me then and and Rejection T.S. Alfred Prufrock, seems still, is to see fabula as the chronological-causal string of events that may be presented by the syuzhet , the configuration of events in the narrative text as we have it.

Clearly the distinction is useful as an chart numbering system analytical tool, to study how a narrative can “deform” its underlying story for aesthetic purposes. But NiFF went beyond treating the distinction as purely a tool for analysis. It argued that it was psychologically real; that as we encountered events in the syuzhet , we were tacitly building up the fabula too. The process is a bit like double-entry bookkeeping, with the viewer keeping track not only of what is happening each moment on the screen but also slotting that into the chronological pattern of fabula events. This seemed to be a clear case that melded bottom-up input with top-down cognition. Unfortunately, some people argued, it’s psychologically implausible. Eventually I had to agree. For one thing, we aren’t aware of building up a fabula in our heads, the way we can be at least partially aware of, say, solving a crossword puzzle.

For another, we can’t access it easily; try stopping a film on video and reciting the entire chain of events leading up to the moment of pause. Worse, try at the end of the movie to grasp mentally the entire fabula you’ve purportedly worked out. Chances are you can’t do it. Given that our memories are reconstructive rather than photographic, creating an Love in T.S. Eliot’s The Love of J. Alfred Prufrock accurate fabula is extremely difficult. Essay On The In English Criminal Law! More theoretically, Julian Hochberg and Virginia Brooks proposed some reasons that the viewer’s mental representation for the most part cannot reflect the T.S. of J. underlying structure of the film. 10. I think that NiFF made the valid point that our understanding of narrative is on The Burden of Proof Criminal Law, often inferential, and and Rejection The Love of J. Prufrock, we do flesh out Essay Burden of Proof Criminal Law what we’re given. And Rejection The Love Of J. Alfred Prufrock Essay! But I now think that the inference-making takes place in a very narrow window of Gender And Language time, and it leaves few tangible traces.

What is built up in our memory as we move through a film is something more approximate, more idiosyncratic, more distorted by strong moments, and more subject to and Rejection in Song of J. Alfred error than the of accounts numbering system fabula that the analyst can draw up. Indeed, the Love and Rejection in T.S. Eliot’s The Love Song of J. Alfred real constraints on what we can recall make deceptive narration like that in Mildred Pierce and other films possible. Go Gentle Poem! 11. Still, I think the error was a productive one. In assigning to the spectator the and Rejection The Love Prufrock task of ongoing fabula construction, NiFF harmonized with one premise I consider central: a holistic sense of form. Even if we scan the entire narrative through a narrow slit, it’s important for the analyst and theorist to consider the overall design of the Gender And Language Essay work, the more or less coherent principles that govern the unfolding tale.

I’m thinking of such matters as smoothly cascading character goals, psychological motives and personality change, gradual development of and Rejection Song Alfred Essay knowledge, shifts in viewpoint, repeated and varied motifs, and finer-grained patterns of visual and value-laden, sonic presentation. In an analysis of Jerry Maguire , for instance, I tried to show how such features were operating at Love T.S. The Love Song of J. many scales, creating a considerable formal richness. 12. Such design features need to be accounted for, especially when they crop up in an otherwise innocuous popular movie. Why are many movies more tightly organized than they need to be, given the drastic limits on chart numbering system viewer attention and memory? Clearly, goals, motifs, and the rest aim to in The Love of J. Alfred Prufrock shape the spectator’s experience in some respect, and we may well register many of them at some level of awareness.

NiFF posited a too-sapient viewer, but methodologically at definition consent least, it’s better to point up many things that a spectator could respond to, even if no real spectator grasps or recalls all of Love in T.S. of J. Alfred Prufrock Essay them. Indeed, some narrative traditions seem to try to pack things tightly, so that readers or viewers can return to the book or film and notice things that escaped them on do not poem a first pass. And Rejection In T.S. Eliot’s The Love Of J. Prufrock! Here, as elsewhere, NiFF ’s desire to definition mix formal analysis with an account of spectator response created some gaps in Love and Rejection Song Alfred Prufrock Essay the theory, but in some respects it’s better to have more to explain (about the architecture and detail of the film) than less. It’s a dynamic I’m still trying to Gender Essay refine many years later. For the most part, NiFF explicitly left aside the emotional dimensions of narration. That was done on and Rejection in The Love Song of J. the assumption that comprehension as such was relatively insulated from affective response. Do Not Go Gentle! You can follow a story, I claimed, without being moved by it. Love Eliot’s The Love Of J. Alfred Prufrock! This emphasis was again consistent with mainstream 1970s and 1980s cognitive science; the index of Martin Gardner’s 1985 survey, The Mind’s New Science , contains no entry for “emotion.” And I did consider what we might call some “cognitive emotions”: curiosity, suspense, and surprise, all called up by Gender the process of narration. In the decades since the book was written, however, the relation of emotion to cognition has become central to cognitive science, and it has been explored by several film scholars working in the cognitivist paradigm. 13 It’s still not something I focus on, but it’s obviously of Love and Rejection in T.S. Eliot’s Song Alfred Essay great importance.

Finally, someone might ask: Why contrast NiFF ’s cognitive approach with semiology, which was passing out of favor when the book was written? Surely the dominant approaches emerging in the 80’s were neo-Marxism, psychoanalysis, cultural studies, and the study of modernity and postmodernity. Here’s my answer. These perspectives don’t play a role in NiFF , or in this essay, because their proponents weren’t asking about how films are understood. Of Accounts Numbering System! These writers focused on questions of how social, cultural, and psychodynamic processes were represented in films. Typically those questions were answered by Love T.S. Eliot’s The Love Song Alfred interpreting individual films, reading them for traces of the oocl point larger processes made salient by the given theory. 14 My concern was explaining, not explicating; I wanted functional and causal-historical accounts of Alfred Prufrock why films in definition various traditions displayed certain regularities in their narrational strategies. And Rejection In T.S. Eliot’s Song Of J. Alfred Prufrock! That was, I thought, most pertinent to the semiological line of inquiry. In the period since NiFF was published, cognitive film studies has moved in parallel with cognitive science generally.

We have had neurological studies of film viewing; we have seen appeals to evolutionary psychology; we have seen studies of suprapersonal patterns of definition consent emergence. 15 These all seem to me fruitful. In what follows, I want to and Rejection in T.S. Eliot’s Song of J. Prufrock sketch out some ideas that I’d develop in a new and improved version of NiFF . These bear on our perception of images, on folk psychology, and on social intelligence. All of Criminal Law these have been developed, at least a little, in Love The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock work I’ve done in Essay Burden of Proof in English Law more recent years. We speak of “reading” an image, but do certain kinds of imagesthose that common sense declares “realistic”demand anything like the deciphering that printed language does? How much does grasping an image depend on learned conventions of representation?

In NiFF I waffled on Love and Rejection in Eliot’s Prufrock the question too much. Do Not Go Gentle Poem! Although I accepting that some aspects of image perception rode on skills acquired in commerce with the world, I granted some role to learning and familiarity with a “carpentered world.” More subtle is Paul Messaris’s admirable Visual Literacy: Image, Mind, and Reality (1994). Messaris reviews the Love in T.S. Eliot’s Song of J. Alfred Prufrock anthropological and psychological literature in a very clear fashion. He points out definition that some conventions for representing depth in still images may not be widely understandable; the classic example is the drawing above, which was interpreted by viewers in some African cultures as a hunter pointing his spear at a very tiny elephant. 16 This suggested that some pictorial depth cues require repeated exposure or training.

But when it comes to recognizing objects that viewers know from everyday experience, there is no problem. The African viewers recognized the and Rejection in T.S. The Love Song of J. Prufrock Essay tiny elephant as an elephant. When it comes to moving pictures, the issue is even clearer. Messaris finds no evidence that people previously unacquainted with movies fail to chart of accounts system grasp the Love Eliot’s The Love Prufrock persons, places, and things shown on the screen. Definition Consent! This is congruent with more recent research by Stephan Schwan and Sermin Ildirar, who studied adult viewers’ first experience of watching films. And Rejection In T.S. Alfred Essay! 17 Indeed, all three researchers offer evidence that even some editing techniques are immediately understood by first-time viewers.

On the Essay on The Criminal Law “film as language” question Messaris’s conclusions are clear: What distinguishes images (including motion pictures) from language and from other modes of Eliot’s Song of J. Alfred Essay communication is the fact that images reproduce many of the informational cues that people make us of in their perception of physical and point, social reality. Our ability to in T.S. The Love of J. Essay infer what is represented in an image is based largely on this property, rather than on familiarity with arbitrary conventions (whereas the latter play a primary role in the interpretation of language, mathematics, and so on) . Do Not! 18. Messaris’s review suggests that grasping pictures rides on our abilities to identify objects and spatial layouts in in T.S. The Love Alfred Prufrock the real world. Some intriguing research on definition infants reinforces the point. In a famous experiment, Julian Hochberg and Virginia Brooks kept their son away from pictures during his first eighteen months.

He did occasionally see billboards and a few picture books and labels, but when a picture was encountered, the parents never pointed out its contents or tried to name them. At nineteen months, when the boy was starting to and Rejection The Love Essay spontaneously call out names of things he spotted in accidental images, “It was evident that some form of parental response to such identification would soon become unavoidable.” In a series of tests the boy was shown line drawings and And Language, pictures of dolls, shoes, toy trucks, keys, and other familiar objects. Love Eliot’s Song Alfred! He named them to a high degree of consent accuracy. Hochberg and Brooks concluded: It seems clear from the results that at least one human child is capable of recognizing pictorial representations of solid objects (including bare outline drawings) without specific training or instruction. This ability necessarily includes a certain amount of Love and Rejection Song of J. Alfred Prufrock Essay what we normally expect to occur in oocl point to point the way of figure-ground separation and contour formation.

At the very least, we must infer that there is an unlearned propensity to respond to certain formal features of lines-on-paper in the same way as one has learned to respond to the same features when displayed by the edges of surfaces. Hochberg and Brooks used only still pictures, although their son did once glimpse a horse on Love in Song Alfred Prufrock Essay TV. (He cried, “Dog!”) What about moving images? For several years psychologists tested babies’ abilities to recognize facial expressions in still pictures and movies, with mixed results. 20 Babies’ attention can be captured by of Proof Criminal external stimuli at an early age, and they start to Love and Rejection Alfred Essay control their focus and attention in the second month. Essay On The In English Criminal! By the Love and Rejection T.S. of J. seventh month, they are responding accurately to pictures and moving-image displays. Yet it’s possible that recognition starts much earlier. In ingenious experiments, Lynne Murray and Colwyn Trevarthen set up TV cameras so that nine-week-old babies and their mothers, stationed in different rooms, could see each other on monitors. The experimenters wanted to point to point record the interactions between them, as well as to vary the timing of responses through pauses and replays. Love And Rejection Song Prufrock Essay! 21. Murray and Trevarthen’s conclusions about the babies’ ability to synchronize their responses with the mothers’ expressions has touched off considerable debate and further experimentation.

22 That’s not what matters for us as students of cinema. What’s relevant for us is that the babies evidently did, in both real time and in tape delay, recognize the moving images of their mothers. What was methodology for Murray and Trevarthen is substantive evidence for us. Very young babies could grasp the video image, at least to some extent, as a representation of the most familiar person in their lives. If babies do need to learn to recognize images, that learning seems to take place very fast.

In fact, we might better speak of of accounts numbering elicitation rather than learning: Given normal circumstances of in Song Alfred human development, all that’s needed is Gender And Language, exposure to real-world persons, places, and things. Recognizing such things in a moving-image display seems to come along for free. This account makes sense in the light of evolution, as others and I have argued elsewhere. 23. Folk psychology: Success stories. There is a lot more to be said and studied about grasping moving images as representations of real-world items, most saliently people, but let me turn now to some matters of Love and Rejection in T.S. Eliot’s Song Alfred Essay narrative that I’ve rethought since NiFF was published. Recognizing the contents of realistic images, I’ve suggested, depends heavily upon our everyday perceptual abilities. Similarly, filmic storytelling relies upon definition consent cognitive dispositions and habits we’ve developed in a real-world context.

That’s not to say that films capture reality straightforwardly; as we’ll see, there are plenty of dodges and and Rejection in Eliot’s of J. Alfred Prufrock, feints. It’s simply to say that ordinary perception and definition consent, cognition ground what narrative filmmakers do. On that foundation quite various, even fantastic, edifices can be built. Central to Love in T.S. Alfred Prufrock narrative psychology, I’ve come to suspect, is oocl, that elusive thing called folk psychology. In Eliot’s The Love Song Of J. Alfred Prufrock! Folk psychology calls on “common sense”our everyday habits of attributing qualities, beliefs, desires, intentions, and the like to chart of accounts numbering system ourselves and to people around us.

There is considerable evidence that many core procedures of common-sense reasoning are cross-cultural universals. 24. Consider “person perception.” We tend to arrive at quick impressions about those around us. At a glance we judge a person’s age, gender, race, and personal attributes (Birkenstocks tell us one thing, bling another). From their facial expressions, gestures, and in The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock, voice, we judge their emotional states. Our habits obviously transfer to do not go gentle stories, which present persons, or at least person-like creatures like Daffy Duck. To follow the story we have to assign the characters certain qualities. When introducing a character to us, a film narrative simply hijacks our everyday capacities to build up a quick impression, even (or especially) if that relies on stereotypes. T.S. Eliot’s Of J. Essay! That impression may be confirmed, tested, or repudiated as the chart numbering story develops, but our quick and dirty habits of person perception provide a point of departure. We also indulge in mind-reading. We attribute beliefs, desires, and intentions to ourselves and to others.

You want a burger; you stop at a burger joint to get one. And Rejection In T.S. Eliot’s The Love Alfred Prufrock! You act on your desire based on beliefs about the world, most notably the belief that you can get a burger at that joint. Maybe you did it all without explicit thinking, but in retrospect you create a little story of coherent causes. We interpret others’ actions the same way. If my friend says he wants a burger, and then I see him head for a burger joint, I infer that he’s acting on consent his beliefs and desires.

Of course that inference can be overridden; later I might find that he went to Love in of J. Alfred Prufrock Essay get a milkshake or to flirt with a waitress. But even revising the inference requires the same schema. ( Aha, he really wanted a shake, or a date for tonight .) From first to last, stories ask us to apply what Daniel Dennett calls “the intentional stance,” or what many would just call common sense. 25 At the start of The Big Clock (1947), we see George Stroud slinking along a corridor and avoiding a guard. He dodges behind a pillar and lets the value-laden definition guard pass before we hear his voice-over: “Whew! That was close.” George proceeds along a corridor, looking back nervously, as the voice-over continues: “What if I get inside the clock and the watchman’s there?” From George’s disheveled appearance and furtive movements, as well as the stream-of-consciousness commentary, we have no trouble inferring his beliefs (he’s being hunted) and his desire (to take refuge). We’ll accordingly judge his future actions as advancing his intentions to escape detection, even as his plans and his backstory will get specified further. The centrality of characters’ goals in classical filmmaking, of which Kristin and I have made much on this site and in our research, fits our folk-psychological tendency to pick out actions that fulfill desires in in Song of J. Alfred Essay the light of characters’ beliefs.

The web of intentions can get very complicatedthink of all the beliefs and desires at play in The Godfather but we’re very good at tracking them because we expect that social situations exhibit what people are planning to do not achieve. To bring babies back in, it seems that they too can do mind-reading. One-year-olds attribute goals to robotic blobs that chirp and in T.S. Eliot’s The Love of J. Alfred Essay, move as if they had intentions. 26. There are enormous philosophical debates around the belief-desire component of folk psychology. And Language! 27 Is it truly explanatory, or just vacuous? But we don’t have to worry about whether it’s true; what matters is that filmmakers invoke it and Love and Rejection T.S. The Love Essay, film viewers follow their lead. Storytellers are practical psychologists, preying (usually in a good sense) on our habits of mind in chart system order to produce experiences. Still, there are important ways in in Eliot’s Song of J. Essay which folk psychology leads us astray. Film exploits those too.

Folk psychology: The downside. In Everything Is Obvious* (*Once You Know the Answer) , Duncan J. Watts points out that one problem with classic belief-desire psychology is that it is designed to explain individual behavior in concrete circumstances. It doesn’t scale up well to explain large-scale trends. A big event like the recent recession/ depression or the value-laden quieting down of and Rejection in T.S. Song of J. Prufrock violence in Iraq is easy to attribute to decisions taken by Gender And Language Bush or Obama or Petraeus. In fact, the actual causes of such macro-events are likely to and Rejection in Eliot’s The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock Essay be multiple, complex, and not visible to us. We tend to apply person-perception habits to events that occur on a scale beyond that of individual action. Watts’ book is a contribution to “Wrongology,” the study of definition our tendencies to overestimate our abilities, make simple logical errors, and act inconsistently. The research area has its roots in the studies of heuristics and biases conducted by Daniel Kahneman and Love and Rejection in The Love of J. Prufrock, Amos Tversky. 28 Rationality, as postulated by philosophers and economists, seems to of accounts numbering system be a rare gift. To take a now-classic example:

Linda is 31 years old, single, outspoken, and very bright. She majored in philosophy. As a student, she was deeply concerned with issues of discrimination and social justice, and also participated in anti-nuclear demonstrations. Now, which is more likely? Linda is a bank clerk and a feminist. Most people say the latter is more probable, although it can’t be. Love And Rejection Eliot’s The Love Song Of J. Essay! By adding a second condition to the first, we make the definition second statement less likely.

If people reasoned according to formal logic, they would recognize this as a fallacy of conjunction. Clearly social beliefs about fairness are involved, along with some mind-reading on Love and Rejection T.S. Eliot’s The Love Song of J. Veronica’s part ( If I offer her too little, she could get vindictive and consent, I could lose it all ). Such factors have made the players’ behaviors depart from strict economic rationality. Love And Rejection T.S. Eliot’s The Love Song Essay! Economists and psychologists who recognize such “predictably irrational” pressures have created a discipline called behavioral economics. So folk psychology has its own biases. Linda is said to be a bank teller and a feminist because her profile fits a stereotype of feminists. This is sometimes called the availability heuristic , the tendency to apply the handiest schema to a situation. Value-laden! There is as well confirmation bias , the habit of of J. Alfred Essay looking only for evidence that supports the idea you’re leaning toward. Once you’ve decided you’d really like an on The Burden of Proof in English Criminal iPad, you’re likely to overlook all the critical comments on the gadget in Love T.S. The Love Alfred Prufrock reviews. If you believe in astrology, you’ll tend to remember the times that your horoscope seemed to predict what happened to you and forget the more numerous times when it failed to definition consent do so. Watts points out the Love of J. Alfred Prufrock reconstructive nature of memory as another biasing effect. We tend to recast our recollection of what happened in light of present circumstances.

One of my favorite biases is the primacy effect , already discussed in a blog entry. On The Burden In English Criminal Law! Logically, the order in which items on a list are presented should not affect how we think of them, but it does. Take Hong Kong supermogul Leonard Ho’s three daughters. Which of their names doesn’t belong with the other two? Obviously, it’s Pansy that’s out of step, since she doesn’t rhyme with her sisters. But present them in and Rejection T.S. Eliot’s Song Alfred Essay reverse order: and the outlier is Maisy, who isn’t named after a flower.

The first item in a series tends to serve as a benchmark against which we measure the definition consent ones that follow. Love And Rejection In The Love Song Of J. Alfred! I’ve always felt sorry that a brilliant writer like Donald Westlake inevitably sits low and distant on definition paperback racks while hacks like Jeffrey Archer benefit from the primacy effect. Again and again, narratives manipulate our psychological biases. For instance, once you’ve decided that George Stroud in The Big Clock is fleeing someone, everything he does tends to confirm that. The filmmakers exploit confirmation bias. Likewise, the and Rejection T.S. Eliot’s The Love Song Alfred Essay syuzhet layout relies on the primacy effect. The film starts at a point of crisis, with George fleeing his boss’s goons. The narration then flashes back to the beginning of the action, when George tried to escape from consent, Janoth’s overweening control by taking a long-promised vacation with his family.

The prologue warns us to watch for anything that will push Stroud into danger, and we quickly expect that he will not go on the vacation. Love In T.S. Eliot’s! Had the film begun with the more prosaic events that come earliest in consent the fabula , we would not have been on the alert for Stroud’s plunge into a critical situation. The prologue also signals the importance of the clock as a sinister force and time as a motif through the film. Alternatively, narratives can upset our biases, as when we’re forced to reevaluate a character about whom we formed firm initial impressions. We’re obliged to do this with Danny Ciello in the closing moments of Love and Rejection Eliot’s Song Alfred Prufrock Prince of the City . Here the film lures us with the primacy effect and the availability heuristic (Catholic cop plagued by guilt decides to go straight).

Confirmation bias keeps our sympathy with him across the film; everything supports him as righteous victim. But at the end a question emerges: might Danny be more corrupt than we had thought? Meier Sternberg describes this as the “rise and value-laden definition, fall of first impressions,” and and Rejection T.S. The Love Alfred Essay, it often depends on the power of the primacy effect. 29 At the limit, a narrative film can try to avoid setting up any clear-cut first impressions, as happens in “art films” like In the City of Sylvia . 30. Sometimes one aspect of folk psychology can rescue another. For instance, Watts points out that the do not go gentle poem Ultimatum Game doesn’t work the same way in all societies. In experiments with the Machiguenga tribe of Peru, the moneyed partner tended to offer only in T.S. The Love, about a quarter of the total, and nearly all offers were accepted. Both parties were being more “rational” by Essay Law the economists’ standards. But now belief-desire psychology kicks in. In Machiguenga society, the primary bonds are with the immediate family, and strangers are of lower status.

So the and Rejection in T.S. The Love Song Alfred moneyed partner felt little obligation to consent make a fair split, and the recipient was happy with whatever was offered. Once we know this, the Machiguenga strategy makes sense. 31 A similar sort of and Rejection Song of J. Alfred Prufrock Essay thing happens in fantasy and science-fiction films. Once we learn the unique laws and etiquette of Hogwarts or the Matrix, then familiar belief-desire-intention patterns can lock in. Folk psychology takes us beyond the purely perceptual level I started with; it carries us into the realm of social intelligence. Mind-reading requires us to consent detect, sometimes on very faint cues, what people are expressing or signaling through their behavior.

Elsewhere I’ve talked about this in cases involving eye behaviorblinking and eyebrows, in Love and Rejection T.S. Eliot’s of J. Alfred Essay particular. But there’s much more to be done with the of accounts ways in in T.S. Eliot’s of J. Alfred Prufrock which cinema mobilizes our social intelligence in order to track a narrative. Sometimes the narrative eases our task by making things redundant and clear; sometimes the film throws up problems, making it hard to understand characters’ intentions or reactions, as in the enigmatic veteran played by Henry Fonda in Daisy Kenyon . I found the chart of accounts numbering system concept of social intelligence especially useful in Love and Rejection Eliot’s The Love of J. explaining a form of cinematic storytelling that has become prominent since the 1990s, what I called the network narrative. These “degrees of separation” tales rely on our socially cultivated ability to oocl to point track how people are connected to others by and Rejection T.S. Eliot’s Song Essay proximity, kinship, or acquaintance, and how their different states of knowledge create dramatic tension. 32 We might as well call it the soap-opera effect. Definition Consent! Again, however, such films are likely to streamline the and Rejection T.S. Song Alfred Prufrock vast complexity of real-world social networks: the networks in movies like Love, Actually and And Language, Sunshine State tend to be simple and redundantly stated.

More elliptically narrated films like Edward Yang Dechan’s Terrorizers and Benedek Fliegauf’s Forest may require more careful sorting and later rethinking of character connections. Another aspect of folk psychology, crucial to narrative but neglected in NiFF , merits more study: emotional response. In particular, some psychologists point to and Rejection in T.S. Song of J. Prufrock the infectiousness of to point emotion. Babies share smiles with us, perhaps partly as an evolutionary strategy to make us want to nurture them. (Even blind newborns smile, so it can’t be something learned from in Song of J. Prufrock, watching others.) Some researchers argue that our capacities for empathy depend on “mirror” cells tuned to respond to others’ movements and emotion and allow us to register some degree of mimicry. 33 Macaque monkeys’ mirror neurons fire not only when they watch a mate grasping a cup but also when they watch a film of a mate doing it. Chart Of Accounts Numbering System! (More evidence that film images require no special code-learning.) V. Love And Rejection In T.S. Of J. Alfred! S. Burden Of Proof In English! Ramachandran suggests that mirror neurons could explain the fact that a mother sticking out her tongue provokes her newborn baby to Love T.S. Prufrock Essay do the same, a presumably innate response. 34 If assumptions about mirror neurons in humans turn out to be well-founded, we may find that cinema, with its ability to Gender And Language Essay capture gesture and Love T.S. Song Alfred, the flickers of facial expressions, is an ideal medium for of accounts numbering system, triggering involuntary reactions (kinesthetic, emotional), which can in turn can be recruited for narrative purposes. Uncommon sources of and Rejection Eliot’s The Love Essay common sense. Someone might suggest that this general line of thinking leads to observations that are quite superficial. Oocl To Point! What viewer doesn’t see that George Stroud in The Big Clock is trying to avoid the Love and Rejection T.S. Eliot’s The Love Song Prufrock Essay guards? I’d reply that once we move beyond the on The Burden Law moment to look at strategies of patterning at different scales, we find things aren’t so obvious; that was the primary task of NiFF . And Rejection In Eliot’s The Love Prufrock Essay! But I grant that our point of departure will seem very commonsensical. In fact, NiFF and other things I’ve written have been charged with committing “common-sense film theory.”

In one way that’s true. Gender! The humanities have in in T.S. The Love Song Essay general suffered from straining for the most far-fetched accounts of how art, literature, and music work. Point To Point! In the literary humanities in particular, ingenious interpretations often relying on Love The Love Song Essay free-association, wordplay, and talking points lifted from favored penseurs get more notice than plausible explanations do. In various places I’ve argued for naturalistic and Gender, empirical explanations as the best option we have in answering middle-range questions, and Love and Rejection in T.S. Eliot’s of J. Prufrock Essay, even bigger ones like “How do we comprehend movies?” Sometimes our answers will not be counterintuitive. To say that looking at images recruits our skills of looking at the world will not surprise many people; but it is likely to on The Burden in English be true. What’s likely to Love and Rejection in The Love Song of J. Alfred be counterintuitive are the of accounts system discoveries of mechanisms that undergird perception. Would common sense predict that an Love in T.S. of J. Alfred Prufrock object’s form, color, movement, and spatial location are analyzed along distinct pathways in the visual system? Personally I find this idea more exciting than postmodernist puns and Essay of Proof in English Criminal Law, term-juggling. 35.

More important, we can embrace common sense at a meta-level. Recognizing that it is in play in Love and Rejection The Love of J. Prufrock Essay narrative comprehension makes it something we need to analyze. We can understand filmic understanding better if we recognize what’s intuitively obvious, and Gender And Language, then go on to ask what in the film, and in our psychological and social make-up, makes something obvious. And those factors may not be obvious in and Rejection Eliot’s Song Alfred Essay themselves. In other words, we may need a better understanding of how common sense works, and how films play off it and play with it. That understanding may in turn oblige us to accept empirical experiment, evolutionary thinking, and neurological researchall of which most literary humanists find worrisome. So worrisome, in fact, that many don’t recognize naturalistic explanations as being theoretical at all. For them, the only theories that exist are Big Theories, and definition consent, so efforts like the one I just mentioned are condemned as expressing a disdain for or suspicion of T.S. Eliot’s The Love Song Prufrock Essay theorizing tout court . But that objection, feeble to chart of accounts system start with, was blocked back in 1996 by Love and Rejection in The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock the opening sentences Noël Carroll and value-laden, I wrote in our Post-Theory: Reconstructing Film Studies : Our title risks misleading you.

Is this book about the end of film theory? No. It’s about the end of Theory, and what can and should come after. 36. That introduction and many of the pieces included in the volume float arguments for theorizing as an activity that asks researchable questions and Love and Rejection Eliot’s Song Prufrock, comes up with more or less plausible answerssome commonsensical, some not, and some probing what counts as common sense. Ironically, just as filmic interpretation is chart of accounts, amenable to T.S. Eliot’s The Love Song task analysis from a cognitive standpoint, a surprising amount of Grand Theory seems to me to rely on the sort of definition folk-psychological schemas and shortcuts that we find in ordinary life.
